Great Basics for Lotus Smartsuite 2000,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lotus SmartSuite Millennium Edition for Dummies (Paperback)
Since I had never used Lotus Smartsuite, this book provided me with the basics to understand all of Smartsuite's components, and how to use them. I found the "tips" particularly useful. The linking information that tells you how to share your data from one part of the suite to another is great. The index helps you easily locate the information you need. This is an excellent resource for any Lotus Smartsuite novice.

Junk and nonsense,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lotus SmartSuite Millennium Edition for Dummies (Paperback)
Trying to learn Lotus or Approach from this book is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. It's great to know all the great possiblites, but some guidence in how to define data in the cells and entering a formula for a cell. I want $ signs and decimal points in my data. I know how to write a formula, but where do I find in your book, how to enter it? Yes, I want to know what the programs can do,(I already know much of that) but I need to know how to make the entries and definations. That's the reason I bought your book.

Which Book am I Reviewing?,
By Fred Thompson (Reno, NV United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lotus SmartSuite Millennium Edition for Dummies (Paperback)
The photo of the cover shows a book called, "Smartsuite X For Dummies". The title beside the photo says, "Lotus Smartsuite Millennium Edition For Dummies". "Millennium Edition For Dummies" is about release 9.5, and isn't a bad book for a rank beginner, but I had to buy several other books to really figure out most of what this book promised (like sharing data between the various programs in SmartSuite, which is addressed nowhere in the book but on the front cover, as far as I could tell). "Smartsuite X" is (presumably) about release 10, which I don't have, so I haven't read this book. If I do upgrade to release 10, though, I won't bother to buy the "Dummies" book. The QUE book "Using SmartSuite Millennium Edition" was a much better tutorial on 9.5, so I'd sooner buy the release 10 edition of that book instead. As far as I can tell, anyone who wants to build stand alone applications with Lotus needs to learn Uncle Bill's Visual Basic Script language (VBS), which isn't really addressed in any Lotus book I've seen (Duh!). Might as well learn DBase or FoxBase; you can do a lot more a lot easier.

The book was as I had expected. It is very good and I will be using it as a reference. Also, I am eager to try it. It suggests many things that I new nothing about.
