I first ordered this at the end of October to replace my wife's lost dell cord. The Dell replacement version is $60. I thought I would try this.

In less than a month, the cord from the adapter to the outlet shorted out at the point where it plugged into the adapter.

We contacted be email, and customer service was quick to replace this part. Now here I am again with the same problem in less than a month.

I would not buy this item.

Within 24 hours from receiving this charger it nearly burnt my house down. If it hadn't been for my roommates who were home at the time that it began filling my livignroom with smoke, I would have arrived home from work to a burning house. The battery center, who I purchased this from, has been very understanding and gave me a full refund and did not require me to send the product back.

BEWARE- Unless you are trying to start a fire, just order your charger from the manufactor. I was happy to pay Dell's $80 to get a charger that won't ignite my home.

Nothing like the picture shown. Very short in length (around 6 feet), no fasteners for the cord, and my outlets tend to spark whenever I try to plug this thing in...

On the plus side it does power my Inspiron 6000, and is one of the cheapest adapters that I found online. I guess the lesson here is "you get what you pay for."

Great low price alternative to the OEM replacement charger for my Inspiron 6000. Powers laptop and charges battery perfectly.

Correction - It's been a couple months and the adapter has given out. It will still power the laptop but will not charge the battery. Guess I am going to break down and buy the $65 OEM adapter. Bummer.

This may have just been a bad batch, but the power supply I received was definitely one of the worst products I've ever seen. The casing split almost immediately, and then it died completely just a few weeks after I got it -- It surged/shorted so badly (without warning) that sparks flew from my outlet and my circuit breaker tripped. Thank goodness for the CB, or I would have had some really serious damage!

That said, I was all set to have to fight an uphill battle with The Battery Center to get restitution, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Not only did they ship it in a heartbeat when I first ordered it, but they were incredibly helpful and polite once I told them what happened. All I had to do was say the word and they made good on it.

Thanks, guys -- I was all set to write you guys off for life, but the way you handled this snafu has given me reason to give you guys another shot, if I ever need anything else. Just please do us all a favor and do a MUCH better job at sourcing your products, next time. We, your Amazon buyers, would definitely appreciate it.

The price on this item was great. When I received it however, I could not insert the plug into the adapter-didn't fit. I emailed the seller, who was very prompt and courteous and immediately sent me a new cord (isolated problem to the cord w/the help of my other charger). This one didn't fit either. Then I was told that these had a tight fit and to 'shove it in' and if it broke they would send me a whole new set. I could not get it in no matter what, and I'm not a weakling. My husband, after some struggling, was able to get the parts together. It works, but I can never take the two components apart.
Because of the terrific price, I am giving it three stars instead of two, despite my troubles with it.
update: 4/22/09
2 months later: I can't pin the problem on it definitvely, but now both of my laptop batteries are ruined. One battery holds a charge for ~10 min; the other (my long life battery) won't last 10 sec. I've been through batteries before, but I've never seen performance degrade this severely or quickly. I hardly ever shut my laptop off-only hibernate-so only recently did I see a startup message saying that this adapter was not optimal (don't remember exact wording) for my laptop, even though the listing says it is. And the plug that goes into the laptop is now loose and comes out often. I've just placed an order for new batteries and adapters, and am going back to genuine Dell products-it wasn't worth the cost savings. I can't change my rating anymore-I would put it at 1 if I could.

Product works great and was sent quickly to me. Be sure and keep the rubber strap from your old power supply cord to use on the new one.

I was definitely suspicious of this thing, and now I am genuinely surprised. This is WAY better than the Dell adaptor. It does NOT get hot and works great, doesn't keep falling out like the initial one did. Great purchase from Amazon. Do yourself a favor and save $40 bucks plus tax and buy this thing from Amazon instead of the piece of junk Dell will try to sell you. Don't even get me started on Dell's Lithium ion batteries for their laptops.

Small green light turned on when I started charging.

Smelled burning odor.

Within half an hour, light was off, laptop charged to about 70 percent.

Light hasn't turned on again. Charger clearly broken.

Piece of junk.

Power cord arrived quickly and was well packaged. It fit my Dell laptop perfectly. Really handy because we use the laptop in two places and the extra power cord allows for additional user time without recharging the battery.
