5.0 out of 5 stars Great Option - steam and iron in one
I've been torn between replacing my 10y ear old iron with a steamer or an iron. I've read a lot about both and was worried that a steamer would not meet all my needs since I mostly iron shirts and pants, and the odd skirt - more the twill and cotton type of clothing. I was not looking to replace the dry cleaner. This system really does a good job of both...

3.0 out of 5 stars On second thought . .
Was excited to get this iron and it wasn't too terribly long before it starting "spewing" water on the article of clothing that I was trying to iron.

Pros:
Lets you steam and iron, so you get the speed and simnplicity of a steamer and the crease and smooth finish of an iron.
For me it works best in combination - I lay the garmet flat (though you can steam it on the hanger as well) steam the section, and then give it a quick pass with the iron. It is faster than my old iron by itself with nice results

Cons:
Bigger than an iron to store
Takes 10 min or so to heat up enough to make steam - so if you are last minute person, this isn't your machine
Button that says 'steam is ready' not reliable on my unit

Manufacturer needs to redesign: Iron temperature setting is almost impossible to read or determine where the heat setting is - the manufacturer should really improve this as it is a major drawback - have to get a magnifier to set the iron temp. Yes I wear 'cheaters' but this is beyond cheaters. Color of settings is almost same as color of dial..

Good iron, but it does spit. I can't find one that won't other than a Rowenta that is discontinued. It seems to be working fine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of continuous steam!!, November 3, 2010

I have had this product for a little over a month. I was first worried about the lack of holes on the sole plate as there are only a few and my Rowenta has "hundreds". No worries, the steam is amazing on this iron and it just keeps coming non stop as long as you push the steam button. Horizontal or vertical! The only con is you can't tell how much water is in the tank. I just use it until it runs out of steam and then I put in the recommended amount of water in and I'm off and ironing. I do try to remember to turn the iron on a few minutes before I need it as it takes about 4-5 minutes for the boiler to be ready. The iron is sleek and smooth with no flaws. It gets wrinkles out of T-shirts while on the hanger. Nice!

As always, Amazon delivers BEFORE they say. I have always been happy with Amazon's service!

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy!, April 21, 2011

I bought one of these irons and after 13 months, it physically came apart (broke). I thought it was perhaps a fluke (came with only a 12 month warranty), so I bought another one and my second one broke after 2 months of use. I sent it back to Amazon, not wanting a warranty replacement and they gave me a partial refund. I really don't think these are well-made (made in China). I had high hopes for this iron since it was reasonably priced, but ended up wasting over $100. I have since purchased a "DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler" from Amazon and am so MUCH happier with it. It costs an extra $50, but it appears to be much better built even though it too is made in China. It comes with a 3 year warranty (versus the 12 month Smartek warranty) which is reassuring. I really recommend that you do NOT buy one of these!

3.0 out of 5 stars Smartek Steam Generator Iron, April 19, 2011
By
This review is from: Smartek ST-X100N Powerfull Steam Station Iron (Kitchen)
I purchased this item from Overstock so I could purchase the 2 year extended warranty. I got it yesterday and have yet to try it in one of my marathon ironings. I'm a confessed ironaholic. I am a seamstress so therefore I use my iron constantly. The lettering on the black heat setting knob on top of the iron is virtually unreadable. I wear reading glasses and also had to use lighted magnifier to see what setting I had the iron on. The fill tank is completely encased so you can't see the water level in the boiler. After leaving the iron for a few minutes to sew a few more seams I came back to press again. This time the iron dispensed a puddle of water on my new garment and I was not happy. I'm guessing the water in the hose from the boiler to the iron had cooled and was being shot out before the steam. I'm still getting spits and sputters and that is unacceptable. I had read on reviews of similar irons to place the tank on the floor under the ironing board to decrease the spitting.
PROS: does not shut off automatically
good flow of steam
large water reservoir
CONS: spits and sputters
long heat time
unreadable setting dial
A few more tries and it may just have to go back to Overstock.

2.0 out of 5 stars Solid build but too awkward for me, November 12, 2010

Just could not adapt to this...takes quite a while to heat up and does not, in my opinion, steam as much as you would believe it would from the design. Went back to a standard type iron.

5.0 out of 5 stars Goodbye Local Dry Cleaners, December 7, 2009
This review is from: Smartek ST-X100N Powerfull Steam Station Iron (Kitchen)
Say goodbye to ironing (and you local dry cleaners) and step into the world of steaming.
This Steam Station does exactly as advertised: "presses dry steam into the fabric of your clothing, softening the fibers, and smoothing out wrinkles in a fraction of the time".

Although extremely powerful, I used this Steam Station iron on silks and delicate fabrics and it came out beautiful and it kept the fabric like new. At first I was hesitant to try it with delicate clothing.

Calculate the amount of money you spend at your cleaners - this product basically pays for itself!

So long Mr. & Mrs. Local Dry Cleaners
