Author Daniel Solin addresses a wide range of financial situations we all face: whether to buy or rent, what kind of life insurance is best, how to plan for retirement and invest in the markets, etc. The chapters are short and written in clear language. I could see this book being a very good manual for a family throughout life.

I can't say I agree with every bit of advice: I lean toward term insurance while he sees usefulness in cash value policies. But he makes a clear argument for his side, and I can't dismiss out of hand that cash value may be worthwhile for the people he says would benefit.

Much of the advice included in this book can be found scattered in other personal finance books. But here it is presented in one place in a clear fashion. That makes this book so valuable, and earns my recommendation.

I read this book in 1 afternoon! It gets right to the point and you don't have to weed through a lot of blubber before he gets to the point. I found the information very helpful and was able to put the info to use right away on insurance and estate planning issues. Worth the read if you have some financial issues.

A concise, practical, well defined explanation of how to build a savings/investment program to fund one's retirement. I wish I'd read this book a long, long time ago - I would have not made some of the mistakes I did make through ignorance.

I have read a few different financial books and this one seems to be the easiest read. Short chapters, easy terms, great analogies, explanation of assets and liabilities, history the stock market industry, and risks. This books tells you similar advice to most good financial advisers: buy low fee managed index funds in a Roth IRA, avoid scams from commission based financial advisers, the importance of compound interest, don't become a slave to debt, and always spend less than you make!

To be fair I'm all over books that teach me something I didn't know anything about before. I'm not a story book person, but onto the real point. This book will go in depth about the stock market and how your broker is fudging you hard and your not getting anymore money than the rest of us! Index funds are the way to go, on a side note Mint is a god send!

I've read many personal finance books over the years including Dave Ramsey's books, Next door millionaires, etc. This book is by far my favorite. It doesn't necessary have any new ideas but it is the first book that puts all the basic and advanced advice in a concise, easy-to-understand manner. If you're looking to read one book about personal finance, this is IT. I do find mint.com endorsing a bit annoying though.
