After researching many other brands, I purchased this frame as a gift for my elderly mother who resides in a nursing home. It's one of the few frames out there that does not require the user to be techno savvy. I wanted something simple that could be turned on and off easily and show pictures in a slide show format without having to select from several other options first. I like the wide screen format although Smartparts does offer similar without wide screen, and I liked the wood option instead of black. I consider this product an excellent buy; I simply insert my SD camera card into the frame and switch cards when new pictures are desired.

I have a Smartparts Digital Picture Frame model SPDPF70EW which was given to me as a gift. And it is not very good.

I suppose that it was deliberately designed with a mimumn of controls for the "granny" set.

However, that is exactly my beef with it, That is has virtually no operator controls. The five buttons across the back not withstanding.

I have about 850 pictures so far which look perfectly fine on the
computer or even printed out. Yet on the Smartparts, the brightness is
way too high and the contrast is wrong as well. Many of the pictures
are rather washed out looking. There are no provisions of which I am
aware to adjust these parameters. This is a major fault in my book as opposed to others who report "wonderful" picture quality.


Nor can one adjust the length of time each photo is displayed. And the viewing angle on the LCD screen is rather narrow as well. The standards of this device are far below what the technology is capable of.

So I give it a D+ in terms of viewing quality and a C in terms of
overall performance.

Don't buy this product, if you can avoid it. I would not recommend it
as a gift unless there are major changes in other brands or models.

This picture frame stopped working after a week or two of use. I have emailed and called the company SmartParts three times with no response. The fourth call resulted in voice mailbox full.

I was a little apprehensive based on the previous review but this frame is great. I looked at Matsunichi, Coby, Philips, Kodak and Portable USA. This was the best. It has a very nice real wood bezel. The picture quality is very nice. I had some trouble using the unit -user error :-) Smartparts was very helpful and solved my problems quickly. I say go for this unit, you won't be disappointed!!

All I can say is stay away from this company. This review applies to their entire line. Their support is horrible. They hide their contact phone numbers well on their web site. Once you do find them, the customer service number says this number is temporarily unavailable. You call the tech support you get a message that says they're too busy, leave your name and number. My frame turns itself on by itself, yet no timers are set. There are not any firmware updates for my smart parts frame. I reccomend you look into another brand.

Worked okay for about eight months then just shut off. I wish I hadn't tried to save a few bucks.

I'll give the unit a star for every year in use. I gave it 2 stars because that is long it has lasted. Bought the frame as a Mother's Day gift and my mom has enjoyed it. It was affordable and easy to use but it has "crashed" for some reason after 2 years and it looks like I'll be buying another frame. It was cheaper than most (around $40) but obviously not built to last. My mom did have it on 24/7 so that may have contributed , but there was NOTHING in the manual that suggested it be turned on/off daily.

I purchased this frame for my parents' 40th wedding anniversary. I bought an SD card separately and loaded it with old family photos. My parents absolutely love it! And SD cards are easy to come by, so they can make separate interchangeable "albums" for their frame. The frame itself is well made and has an easel back that you can use either horizontally or vertically. I love that it automatically goes into slideshow mode when plugged in... no "figuring it out" for my parents. I did notice that there is no power switch... To turn it off you must unplug it. That wasn't a problem for us, though. There was also no brightness control, but the screen was quite large for a digital frame. Seemed a fair trade off. The frame came with a software download, but I used my own photo editing software. It worked out well. I would suggest making your photos a little darker to correct the super bright back lit screen. All in all a very good product for the price. If you want a large screened easy to use product this is perfect. (I also own a different frame by Smartparts and it is awesome as well. Good brand.) This frame is good looking, decent sized, and very well built. The picture quality is superb when given a high quality JPEG (I use the maximum quality setting when exporting JPEGs, sized to a maximum of 480 pixels so the frame doesn't have to do much processing when it resizes - and to fit lots of pictures on a single SD card). An excellent purchase for the price. The only downside is that the contrast is way off, with no way to adjust it (even if you open it up). Anything above about 75% saturation is completely blown out. Other than that, I'm very happy with it. Well... except a weird message about starting at picture 850 on a 2 GB card with ~1200 photos on it. I didn't verify that it was actually not displaying pictures, since the controls are simple (by design), and I wasn't about to single-step through all of them.
