Warm in winter, cool in summer.

After light use, I have started see serious fraying in the heal, to the point of a hole developing.

They are machine washable and very comfortable, as well as long lasting.

These socks are phenominal!!

I have two pairs of these heather ribbed, which work great for me at work and during weekends for versatility. For me, they are warm socks during the winter. I tried them outside in 18 degree weather with summer crocs and my feet stayed warm (normally don't do this), just to try them out.

Also, I have never been a fan of wool against my skin causing itching and generally being uncomfortable, but these socks are very comfortable and have never caused me to itch.

My feet are always dry due to the breathability of the sock, and seem to stay at just the right temperature no matter what the temp is outside.

I highly recommend them!!

Purchased these socks 6 months ago. After light use, I have started see serious fraying in the heal, to the point of a hole developing. I have probably washed and wore these socks a dozen time since purchase. My other Smartwool socks have held up perfectly. But this model of smartwool socks has a definite quality issue. I cannot recommend this model. For the $16 purchase price, I would have expected a better product.

I bought two pairs - black and charcoal. I like the black ones the best. Here's my laundry list:

Pros:
-Soft
-Long (up to about my calves)
-Stretchy
-Stay up throughout the day
-Breathable
-Absorbent

Cons:
-Not THAT warm in the winter
-This is just a con in general about wool socks. Since they're more expensive, I take better care of them than my other clothes, and so I wash these by hand. Since they soak up so much water, it generally takes a while to clean these. Once cleaned, they take anywhere between 1.5-2 days to try at room temperature.

I would recommend these to anyone. I'm never going back to cotton socks!

I love Smart Wool sock products. I bought these for my husband and he loves them. They stick around forever and look and act like new, and best of all they keep your feet warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

OK, they are just socks right? Well, yes, but they are the most comfortable socks I've worn. I put them on just for the comfort. I'm on my feet most of the day and I use special inserts so these socks help all the way around. The padding on the bottom is a little extra thick which is nice.

No, they aren't hot. You'd think wool would be hot, but not really. They are just right in the hot summer--even in boots. OK, there may be a little sweat--but there would be no matter the sock. So even if my feet get sweaty, they don't stink at the end of the day.

I'd highly recommend these socks if you really want a good pair of socks. Not only are they comfortable, but they are super stylish and environmentally friendly. Wool is completely renewable resource!

These socks were so-so, these I think are the thickest versions of Smartwool. I bought a bunch to try them out as an experiment, the thinner dress type kind too. I really liked these thick ones the best, they had the best cushioning. All the socks are very nice feeling, not rough like some wool can be. My feet tend to sweat a bit, sorry for being graphic; but I am always looking for a good sock that will let my feet breathe and keep me warm too, since after my foot begins to sweat the sweat cools and then my feet freeze. Based on this measure of performance, the thick Smartwools would get a 3.5/5.0

My main problem with the socks that brings the score down is that they did not last long, The areas where ones foot would wear a sock out began at about six months, if one were to wear a pair once a week during those months. I think this is too short considering the price of the socks.

For comparison I got some thick crew Hanes all cotton, for much cheaper, and I know they are cotton so they are supposed to soak up the moisture and then stay wet, but I would give old-fashion .25" thick cotton socks a 4.5/5 on the warmth scale even with my sweaty feet (assuming you do not get your feet wet). They also have lasted far longer than the Smartwools.

I would definitely consider these a niche product if one wanted a luxury sock.

A friend recently put me onto SmartWool socks...said he could go even 3 days before needing to change/wash these socks, if he had to. And besides that, he indicated that they last longer than other socks he'd tried. So, I tried them. And I put them to those kind of tests. And he was right! SmartWool socks are the most comfortable, most durable, most sweat/odor canceling socks I've ever worn. And I'm currently trying to replace all my other socks with them!

They are a bit more expensive than any other socks I've worn, but for my tastes/lifestyle, they are more than worth the price.

These socks are not worth the cost, compared to Gold Toe. They did not last any longer than any other sock I've tried. So, back to Gold Toe for about 1/3 the cost.
