* To be fair, if I were to rate this based on how much the cats used it in the past, I'd have to rate it 4 stars. However..

I purchased this at Ocean State Job Lot for $12.99 after years of resisting the urge to buy it for $19.99 at Walmart. It is definitely not worth $37.75 - in fact, I could not believe it when I saw that was the actual list price on Amazon. Do not pay more than $19.99 for this. I wouldn't even pay more than $15.

It is very large and roomy, which is the only good thing I can say about it. The frame is made of those cheap plastic tubes, the foundation for most of this inferior cat furniture sold at Walmart and Target. Included is the slip cover, which zippers tightly around the frame.

My major complaint is the hammock ceiling. Maybe I snapped the pieces together wrong but the hammock does not look as pictured on the box. It does not curve perfectly. Also, when an average sized male cat lays on the hammock, it sinks pretty low.

All five cats have taken turns using the inside but it's really nothing more than a glorified cardboard box. The baby loves playing with it. She wrestles with it fighting to destroy the feather toy. Luckily those attachments snap back on with these sort of items, so it's no big deal when they "break".

For $40, you could use that money to invest in something more durable and carpeted. Ocean State Job Lot sells 2-3 foot cat trees for $40, and they are thick, heavy, and durable. Anyone can create a hideaway for their cats need for privacy. You don't have to pay $40 for one. I also find it disgusting that this costs more than any one of the sisal wave scratching loungers sold at Petsmart and Walmart.

I have picked this up several times at Walmart and though, it's only $19.99, in the past I always decided I didn't need anymore useless toys/beds that my cats never use. Anyway I bought this tonight and for the last 4 hours at least one cats been in/on it, but both have used it at the same time, one on top one on the bottom, just like the photo. I don't know what they dip this thing in but my cats were laying on it before I had it put together. Putting it together is a snap, took me like 5 mintues. Anyway if this actually lasts for a bit I'm going to be hooked, my cats love this thing. I'm actually planning on buying another just so they can both have one.

This is a fabulous cat condo house. All the cats who have them love them very much. This is my second one. I bought the first one because Fatboy Babushka had one and if Fatboy likes it you know it's good.

I have 2 cats and 3 SmartyKat HammockHouses. They nap on top. They sleep inside. They go there for privacy. They play all over. We connect them together with the crackle tunnels (sold seperately) and they chase each other through them. We place them under windows for outside viewing perches. These bed/toy/hiding places are well worth the price. Really, if you love your cats, your cats will love these HammockHouses.

I bought this about a month ago on the recommendation from a shopper I met at Walmart, where it sells for $15. I have two cats (brothers), one weighs about 13 lbs. and the other is about 15 lbs. They took to this like a duck takes to water! They're very good at taking turns as to who lays in the 'hammock'. Sometimes one will be on top and the other in the bottom. Because of their weight, the hammock has sagged. And because one of them won't let me cut his nails, some small holes & snags started. My friend took an old towel, folded it up, and hand sewed it to the top. They still love it. Somehow, they managed to break a piece of plastic at one of the connections. (They do manage to get into a lot of trouble!) There was still enough of a connection to put the ends back in and duct taped it together. So far, so good.

I bought one of these a year ago for my kitten that was about a month old at the time (maybe younger). We wanted to give her a new place to sleep since she had been sleeping in our recliner with a heating pad on it since day one. She stayed in this hammock house most the time unless she became hungry and wanted her bottle, OR in the event that her heating pad shut off. Once she got a little older, she neglected to use this house, so it got discarded to the garage. Within a couple months, our outside cats had a couple litters of kittens, so we gave the house to them. Since then, it has been used by the outside cats nearly on a daily basis, and it's been out there for them for about 8 or 9 months now.

To my surprise, the hammock house is still fully intact after being used by the cats and abused by the weather conditions. I should also note about the overall quality of this is that it's proven to support the weight of numerous cats cuddling on the hammock roof for extended periods of time. While the inside houses a number of cats, there always seems to be about 4 or 5 cats on top, and the structure has yet to falter.

For the price I paid, and the use that it's had, I'd say it's worth the money. I'm just glad to see it got used after our kitten "grew" out of it.
