You can use this for A-Z labeling or blank, and it comes with that option.

It's built well, it seems like it will hold up to a rather regular amount of abuse.

This is just what I needed to help keep my important expense records in for each month. With the 12 pockets its perfect for monthly records. The pockets are not really pockets since they don't have a separate bottom in them which lets each one expand as much as it needs and one can hold more than another does. They are just dividers that divide the one big accordion folder into 12 sections. If you put anything small into one like change or something like that it will just go through to the bottom and not stay in the divided section you put it in. But, the hanging style folders fit perfect inside the sections. So you can put a few hanging folders in each section if you need to and the top will still close over them.
Overall this is a nice file folder that will hold a lot. The plastic outer cover is very sturdy and it should last for a very long time and for this price its a pretty good deal. If you have a need for something like this I highly recommend them.

I really like this little organizer, which takes up about the same amount of space when empty as something like Five Star Student Expanding File, Red (72387) (which I have a million of), but fits a lot more stuff and makes it so that I don't have to use two different folders for a year's worth of household records.

What I particularly like is the design that allows you to see all of the tabs on the top - I would think that would be a great feature if you have a few of these and want to easily see which one you are selecting.

I am also a big fan of how the tabs aren't distributed diagonally like most folders, but instead are staggered. That allows easier viewing of the labels.

Lastly, the use of a strong little elastic band to keep it all closed is a nice, quality feature and one that will stand up for a long time (unlike long wraparound strings of coated paper files or the longer, thin elastic bands of some plastic folders).

In all, I think I liked this enough that I will be picking up a few more. It's a great price and a product I know will keep my papers organized long-term.

UPDATE::: After less than a week of using this folder, the clear window at the top broke completely, leaving sharp shards of plastic at the top. This would be a serious hazard if this were used for a child or in a teacher's classroom. As it is, I don't really like to carry it anymore, though I still put it in my bag because it's a large folder. If they could fix this problem and make the window as durable as the rest of the folder, I'd give it five stars again. Great idea, but poor execution.

Until I tried using the tabs (those little things that stick up from the enclosed folders that inform you of the folders' contents) I was extremely pleased with this sturdy, handsome file folder. Read on...

PRO:
1. Excellent quality for the money (with one exception, see below).
2. Nicely textured grip for easy holding.
3. Holds a lot! It actually has 14 pockets (not 12) if you count the first and last plastic folders next to the front and back covers.
4. Well-functioning, easy-to-use folder closer. A black elastic band attaches to a circular tab on the front. I suppose it could have been made more secure, but this is sufficient.

CON:
1. The tabs alternate between clear and blue, and someone chose the wrong color blue. They're simply a few shades too dark, and it makes it difficult to see your label (especially if you didn't notice this before and used blue ink).

BOTTOM LINE. For the money, a very good product, especially for household use.
The dark blue color on half of the tabs can make it difficult to read the label.

I am a bug about storing documents where I can easily retrieve them. In the past, I kept important papers in various locations. When I had to find one, it took a long time to locate it. The Smead Step Index Organizer has solved my problem. The file accordions so that it can grow as more papers are placed inside.

The first section has two inserts that are suitable for business cards or a small calendar. A small card is included on which you can list the contents of the file, though I found the limited space impractical for a thorough index of everything contained.

There are twelve sections, so the contents can be arranged by month, if necessary. There's actually another section for miscellaneous papers -- a total of thirteen in all. There are tabs on all twelve sections for labeling, though the paper tabs themselves are for some reason not included. The construction of the organizer is sturdy plastic, so it will stand up to lots of use and even the occasional downpour, if you get caught without an umbrella.

If you use an attache case or a briefcase, the organizer will fit easily inside. An elastic band slips around a button to close the organizer. This is for convenience and doesn't offer security against unauthorized removal of materials.

The price is reasonable considering how it will put order in your life, whether you use it around the house for recipes, keeping track of bills, or saving reminders; at work; or when traveling.

Overall, the organizer does the job of keeping papers handy and at easy reach. At meetings or at important presentations, easy access to material gives the presenter an air of professionalism. Struggling with unruly papers at critical times -- or any time for that matter -- makes one look unprofessional, unprepared, and disorganized.
