I am quite pleased with these Smead SuperTab Heavyweight File Folders. I use a lot of file folders in my work and with a lot of handling they can get pretty worn. The heavyweight of the stock feels really good and I think they will stand up well to the use in my work. Most of the file folders sold today are pretty thin and flimsy. I think these may be heavy enough they can be reused.

I also like the large area provided for labels. It is double the area usually available. You can write a lot more information or use larger print to make it easier to see when you paw through the files.

These folders have earned a place in my office.

I've never viewed file folders as being anything but functional, boring buff-colored and tending to become dog-eared tout de suite.

But with the impressive and inventive Smead Heavyweight SuperTab Folders, the game has changed. We now enter into the categories of beauty (the bold but tasteful colors are gorgeous), facility of use and even durability. These folders have all three.

I held one up for comparison to the standard folders I'm used to taking for granted. There's no comparison. The old manilla folders appeared weak and flimsy next to their much grander improved version.

The manufacturer claims the heavyweight folders are four times stronger. This I believe. And there is a 90 percent larger label area. They fit nicely into my file cabinet; they do extend over a pendaflex folder slightly (approximately 1/4 inch), but I have no problem opening and closing the file drawer.

So I am very impressed and have no plans to ever return to using the old-fashioned file folders. What a step down that would be!

This box of Smead Heavyweight "SuperTab" folders consists of 50 letter-size folders with 1/3-cut tabs in yellow, green, blue and red. The box claims they are 4X stronger, followed by an asterisk. The fine print associated with the asterisk states the folders are 4X stronger than standard folders based on fold strength. The folders themselves are thicker than economical folders I have used in the past (14 point versus 11 point), but I do not find them to be ultra thick. The "SuperTab" has a 90% larger label area. The label area is just deeper, not longer. I am not sure how useful this larger tab really is because if you place letter-size papers in the folder, they will obstruct the view of the lower portion of the label anyway. In addition, that portion of your papers will not be protected by the folder, so it is possible part of the exposed paper area may get wrinkled or dirty. For those who like to buy American-made products, the folders are made in the U.S.A. All in all, these are not bad folders, but for me, I do not feel the larger tab adds anything.

I had stacks and stacks of papers and stuff sitting around, unorganized. Receipts, photos, stuff in piles... important stuff, unimportant stuff, piles and piles of stuff. And then these amazing manila folders from Smead showed up. My life was changed! I began to get organized by labeling the folders with various categories; reciepts, pictures, lists, reference materials, places I wanted to go, places I had been. Little by little my desk was becoming a thing of beauty. Wow, I had no idea there was actually a faux maple surface down there, how nice.

These ubiquitous file folders are made from sturdy, thick, almost-card-like paper stock in the famous Manila color. Some of you out there may not know this but the name "manila" comes from the fact that when these were first made, they were created with "Manila hemp" or what is known as the abaca plant, a native of the Philippines. It is not related to true hemp, pot or Mary Jane. However, Abaca, like true hemp, has multiple uses like rope, textiles, furniture... and paper. Even the Philippine currency is printed on it!

The label area on these is large and makes a nice landing spot for various labels, either stick on or simply written. The tabs are either left, right or middle, which if you are really super-organized, can come in handy. I usually don't pay that close attention. But, since I own a business and have to keep track of things for tax purposes for 7 years, it's nice to have these around. Having recycled my current ones for over a decade, it's nice to have some sturdy new ones since it seems like every year the folders get thicker with stuff! Thanks, Smead, for making these sturdier! There's just not much more I can say about these folders other than the fact that every time I look at one from this day forward, I'm going to think about what Manila really means.

These are high quality folders that are different colors: red, green, yellow, and blue. They are heavy weight and have a larger label area than the standard variety of folders. If you need or like to color code folders, I think you will find this to be a good choice for your records or project. I have used color folders in the past and will be making good use of this box of 50 folders.

The heavyweight file folders are much more durable than regular file folders. By looking at them you can't tell, until you perform a head-to-head comparison. The thickness is quite noticeable.

The tab size is much larger than the regular file folder which allows for either larger lettering/font size, or more detailed description on the tab.

Watch out file re-organization...here I come!!
