5.0 out of 5 stars A fine Callan novel, October 18, 2007
This review is from: Smear Job (Hardcover)
For those who know the old British TV series of Callan, about a government secret service assassin, this book will be well worth your while to read. Even for those who don't know, this is an intricately-plotted gritty thriller which would interest anyone who likes a bit of backstabbing, murder and politics.
Callan and his only friend, the smelly thief called Lonely, are forced into doing a job for Callan's old secret service boss, Hunter. Hunter simply wants a book stolen from a lord in Italy. That's all. Oh, and make a man lose ten thousand pounds at cards. Easy.
Except like all the Callan novels there are many interweaving stories alongside the main one with Callan, blending many recurring characters and old favourties like Meres into the twisting, turning plot. Of course, nothing is quite what it seems to be and nothing is ever straightforward and easy. Callan soon heads off to America to indulge in a little kidnapping and the East German secret police are lurking in the wings - as is Hunter if Callan fails.
Worth a read if you can find it.
