5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is on this? Hmmm...
I will say it from the start: buy this, if for anything, for the extraordinary b-side which is track two. We all know "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is Nirvana's most popular song. But if you are looking for the same sound as that smash single provided, you won't find it with these two bonus songs. Both "Even In His Youth" and the single version of "Aneurysm" are coarse,...

1.0 out of 5 stars if he didn't have a gun....how did he shoot himself?
If this is not THE most over rated CD ever, then it is certainly a contender for the title. If it wasn't for Cobain's suicide, no one would care about Nirvana today. But, just like Jim Morrison has kept the Doors on the "cult following" list, Cobain's death will keep everyone wanna-be emo child wistful of shooting themselves.

As for the music, I could only...

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is on this? Hmmm..., April 2, 2003

I will say it from the start: buy this, if for anything, for the extraordinary b-side which is track two. We all know "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is Nirvana's most popular song. But if you are looking for the same sound as that smash single provided, you won't find it with these two bonus songs. Both "Even In His Youth" and the single version of "Aneurysm" are coarse, unpolished songs that wouldn't quite fit in with Nevermind`s sound. Nevertheless, this CD-single is a must-have for the true Nirvana fans; thanks to the two extras. I cite "Even In His Youth" as one of the best Nirvana songs ever; as it features some of the most creative lyrics Kurt ever wrote. The line `if I die before I wake / I hope I don't come back a slave' is scornfully brilliant and noteworthy. It would've fit in, more appropriately, on In Utero. Many other reviewers have said time and time again this same thing. And although "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is easily the band's finest radio hit, I don't doubt the fact there's a few hundred fanatics who'd rather hear "Even In His Youth" over and over and over instead of track one twice. Those people are the true fans.

This single looks like it's only available used, but pick it up anyways. Still, if you're an average Nirvana fan (meaning you only like Nevermind) who doesn't enjoy the sounds of In Utero, Incesticide or Bleach, then you won't get much out of listening to this. However, if you are in fact a dedicated Nirvana fan and/or are looking for hard-to-find songs, this is the ideal place. "Even In His Youth" alone makes this compact disc 4 stars; and the rare edition of "Aneurysm" boosts it up to five. Oddly enough, the title track here has no bearing on the greatness of the CD. If you only want that song, buy Nevermind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even in his youth + Smells like teen spirit + Aneurysm = THE BEST, April 24, 2006
This review is from: Smells Like Teen Spirit (Audio CD)
Let me start off by saying, I am a die-hard Nirvana fan like most of you (you must be if your looking at their singles). This CD contains 4 of THE BEST Nirvana songs, they are pure musical genius. I have run across these songs and they are, dare I say, my favorite Nirvana songs. To find that they are all on one single, wow. Every day I regret being only 352 days old when this CD came out. I was born 10 or 15 years too late. If you are tinking of buying this, JUST DO IT! You can only find "Even In His Youth" on the Hormoaning EP from Australia for $10 and up, IF YOU'RE LUCKY. Aneurysm, well, it simply OWNS. You'll see what I mean when you buy it, and you know you will buy it. Because I said so.

Short and sweet - this is a great single. One of the best ever, probably. Teen Spirit was a teenage anthem with good reason, it had amazing sound, the supreme rocking riff, deep relatable lyrics, and passion. Following Teen Spirit is another one of Nirvana's best works ever Even In His Youth. Kurt wrote pain songs like other people would write love songs, and they're incredible. I can't imagine why Even In His Youth isn't on the greatest hits album, it has the same passion as YKYR and the same groove as Floyd the Barber. After that is Aneurysm, I think the live version is a bit better but it's still a great Nirvana song with brilliant vocal yelling.

Nirvana's got tons of worth while material and this is one part of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars "If I die before I wake, I hope I don't come back a slave", July 2, 2002

This review is from: Smells Like Teen Spirit (Audio CD)
A great single. "Even in His Youth" and "Aneurysm" are extremely raw and quite sloppy, which may put many people off (on these two songs, don't expect consistent technical quality in the vein of "Teen Spirit"). The sloppiness only bothered me in "Aneurysm". The Incesticide version, overall, is better, but the intro on the SLTS version beats the Incesticide version's HANDS DOWN. In other words: The first 6 seconds are excellent, and the rest of the song is... not the best (to say the least). But I have to say this, though: "Even In His Youth", despite its raggedness,is one of Nirvana's best songs. So good, in fact, that they should've scrapped a song off the second half of Nevermind (perhaps "Lounge Act" or "On a Plain"), and replaced it with "Even In His Youth".

5.0 out of 5 stars Great song with 2 songs to back it up, May 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Smells Like Teen Spirit (Audio CD)
This is one of the most worthwhile single I have seen in a long time. First, it has Teen Spirit, which is probably the most well known Nirvana song, and to back it up it has two songs which most people have never heard. both songs are great (I myself prefer "Even in his youth", but both are great) It is a very good buy for the avid nirvana fan and is well worth the cost. I highly recomend this single to any one who enjoys great music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nirvana will never fade away..., October 23, 2004
This review is from: Smells Like Teen Spirit (Audio CD)
Seriously. This song and this band in general have the timeless talent that hadn't been seen since DARK SIDE OF THE MOON and PHYSICAL GRAFFITI. Well actually millions more remember those albums more than this single, if they evn know this single exists. This is not Nirvanas best single, that would be 'Heart-Shaped Box', but it still is at either #2 or #3. This is the song that opened the doors for me, if it wasn't for Nirvana then I wouldn't have been a rock fan. I owe so much to Kurt and the band and they will always be my #1 favorite band, not even 80's Metallica or Led Zeppelin can beat them. This is a great single with very good b-sides, if you are lucky enough to come across this single then buy it without delay, becuase chances are it wont be available later...

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a single and I still bought it, August 9, 2004
This review is from: Smells Like Teen Spirit (Audio CD)
I'll start off by saying that I don't buy singles mainly because you can hear the track on the actual album, but this one's too good to pass up. "Smells like Teen Spirit" is the best song ever and "Even in his Youth" and "Aneurysm" (not the Incesticide version) are great songs as well. If you are a huge Nirvana fan (like me) then buy the single even if you already have Nevermind because this a must have for any fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Fade Away..., November 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Smells Like Teen Spirit (Audio CD)
If you get any single by Nirvana, this should be the one. It includes 3 groundbreaking songs: "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Even In His Youth", and "Aneurysm"(not the Incesticide version). This single is worth your bucks and the two unreleased songs will suprise you. This single shows that Nirvana will never truly fade away...

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY essential single, October 16, 2002
This review is from: Smells Like Teen Spirit (Audio CD)
A lot of people feel that buying singles is a waste of money. I've been an avid collector of singles since I was a child in the *gasp* early '70s, and strongly disagree.

When Nevermind came out, I was broke. VERY broke. I'd just moved halfway across the United States, and got robbed along the way, so I arrived in Arizona with little more than the ID in my wallet. It was November 1991, and radio and MTV had just started playing 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' by this unknown Seattle 'grunge' band called Nirvana. I liked it. A lot Fortunatly the kind (or would that be greedy) folks at Geffen released the song on a cassette single, which was very cheap. Since Nirvana was considered an unknown new artist, the cassette single was even cheaper, so I bought it the first time I saw it without hesitation. I was particularly blown away by how good the b-side 'Even In His Youth' was. To this day it's still one of my favorite Nirvana songs, and it amazes me how many younger people who say they just LOVE Nirvana have never heard it. One of the many things I've learned by collecting singles was that I could get a quick idea of how much I'd actually like a band's album by how much I liked the b-side they stuck on thier hit single. 'Even In His Youth' is an amazingly intense song, with all the angst and aggression that went on to make Nirvana legendary, and while it doesn't have as much studio polish, is much better than many of thier album tracks. This single was my main motivation to buy "Nevermind" and "Bleach" right at the beginning of 1992. If you've never bought a single before, and you consider yourself a Nirvana fan, this is the perfect single to start with.

The bottom line is if you're a Nirvana fan, you need this, because your collection is truly lacking without it. Also, if you don't collect singles already, you should really try doing it for a while, you might be shocked at how many b-sides rock your world.
