Editorial Reviews

Review

Praise for Robert Munsch:

"Arguably the most successful kid-lit writer in North America." — The Toronto Star

"More witty, creative and entertaining than most of what passes for adult literature." — The Globe and Mail --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

About the Author

Born in Pittsburgh in 1945, Robert Munsch actually studied for the priesthood for seven years before attending Boston University and getting a degree in teaching. While training for the priesthood, Robert worked at an orphanage, where he realized that he loved working with kids, so he decided to work in daycare instead. That is where he realized his knack for storytelling—he would tell the kids stories before naptime. His boss convinced him to publish his stories, which allowed Robert to quit his job and become a full-time writer. Today, Robert and his family live in Canada.

5.0 out of 5 stars A refreshingly funny book January 30, 2006
Format:Paperback
Smelly Socks is the story of a young girl, Tina, who loves her colorful new socks so much that she refuses to take them off, leading to some hilarious consequences.

This is a tall tale that will appeal to young children who, like Tina, often have a favorite piece of clothing that they want to wear all the time. Some of the lines in the book repeat, and children can participate in the telling of the story.

The book is also a very realistic and refreshing look at little girls. Tina is a spunky child, a real girl whose socks smell when she doesn't take them off! It is something different from the ubiquitous dainty princess paraphernalia. This book is a must-have for every little girl's library. The watercolor illustrations are expressive and support the story very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved Smelly Socks November 9, 2006
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
My family has always loved Robert Munsch's book " I Have to Go". My 4yr old liked to read it so much he brought it into the bath with him. Needless to say we had to replace it and that is when I saw all the other stories that Robert has. I bought several of his books and I have to say that "Smelly Socks" is one of our favorites. I think my son asked me to read it everynight for 1 week straight!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Always Pleasantly Surprised February 15, 2006
Format:Paperback
Robert Munsch again creates a great story that children will enjoy. Smelly Socks creates a nice little world of a girl with a mission. But all the other characters have different ideas. In the end we realize that the little girl are is completely in control of her fate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smelly Socks by Robert Munsch
Robert Munsch is "the bomb" when writing to teach and entertain children. His stories are funny with the sing-song repetition that children love. This book is "classic Munsch."
