A real sleeper . . . .,

for those unfamiliar with the term "sleeper": something great that the general public is not familiar with . . . .which applies to both this album and steve marcus - he was just a fantastic musician.

As far as I can tell this is the only jazz (as opposed to jazz-rock) CD of the late Steve Marcus in a small group setting. He is a veteran player who sounds like he has come to this music after a long hiatus, because his playing sounds fresh, and exciting. For a straight-ahead, no-holds-barred treatment of these modern jazz standards, this is one out of the bag!

Lost Classic...,

This CD is one of the best that just no one knows about. This small combo setting is great, and the tunes are tight. Great band dynamics, you`d think these guys were playing together for years upon years. Even though the tracks are all standards you can truly enjoy them. Charlie Parkers` "Confirmation" cannot sound any better than this version even by the man himself. If i had to put this album with a well known classic, I would put it up there with Miles Davis`s "Kind of Blue".. It truely is on my top 5 list of jazz albums..
