Still a Favorite 6 Years after first purchase!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Smilin' Island of Song (Audio CD)
I first purchased this cassette as a Young Teacher working in Early Childhood Education. The Music for Little People's Series has never failed me, and I love reggae. Many years later, this is still a favorite of mine, and now my daughter's (almost 2)and of My Center's ( 111 children at a NAEYC accreditated facility!) I have tested it on Hundreds of children ages 6 weeks through 6 Years and always seen swaying happy children enjoying the music. You can't go wrong with this one!

I bought this CD because I want my 16month old child to have an awareness and appreciation for the folk songs of the caribbean. This CD is a good start. Our favorite tracks are Tingalaya, Chi Chi Buddo, Elena, Sweet Guava Jelly, Banana Boat and Brown Girl In The Ring. I would recommend this CD for it's rythym, melody, authenticity and lack of pretense.

Between the ages of five and ten, this album was my absolute favorite. It was on cassette tape at the time, and it's nice to see it still available today as a CD. While it's extremely upbeat and pleasant, it also makes a family really pay attention to the environment from which this music stems. The songs and conversations urge listeners to imagine the island and the people around the two main singers, and the lifestyles which would create this music and these moods. I highly suggest you buy it for your kids and listen to it with them.
