Product Description

The SE Custom 24 7-String, PRS Guitars first 7-string production instrument, takes familiar PRS aesthetics and playability to new sonic territory. Using the Custom 24 as a platform, this guitar adds a low-B string to offer increased versatility to the player who wants more tonal range. Whether you're playing rock, jazz, or metal, this guitar provides extended low-end growl, increased chordal variance, and a greater ability to embellish standard chords. The SE 7-String features a beveled maple top with flame maple veneer and mahogany back, a 24-fret, 25" scale length maple neck with rosewood fret board and bird inlays. The electronics package pairs SE HFS and SE Vintage Bass pickups with a volume, push/pull tone, and 3-way blade switch. The HFS is a powerful pickup with a balance of aggression, clear highs, strong mid-range, and strong bass. Likewise, the Vintage bass is the evolution of the original Standard bass pickup and has a warm high-mid sound that is excellent for many musical styles.

3 of 8 people found the following review helpful By Scott in Cambridge on July 21, 2013
This guitar has a lot of features...on paper at least. Fancy top veneer, 24 frets, coil splitting.
Heck it even has birds on the fretboard. So im sure it will sell a lot of units, especially if you must
have a PRS type guitar.
The pluses are that this guitar can be set up quite nicely, with a fully adjustable bridge. The playability
is very good right out of the box, neck is flatter than i like but a lot of speed freaks will dig it.
There do not seem to be any dead spots, and I would say the pickups are quite high output, so they do sound
good with overdrive. Finally, and this is not to be under rated, there is in fact quite a big difference between
the single coil and the humbucker sounds with a pull of the tone knob. So the single coil sounds, ala Telecaster/Strat
are quite useable.
The downside is that this is not an inexpensive guitar, if you consider the good quality coming out of China/Korea (etc) these days.
Its more of a mid priced guitar at 550-700 new in my eyes. And for that money, you are getting a decent guitar but, nothing special.
I would say it compares to a mid priced Ibanez solid body, but it is not blowing away any guitars in its price point. Unfortunately for
my review of this guitar, i compared it to two that i had around: the Schecter C-1 Professional Electric Guitar - Antique Amber, as well as a used USA-built
PRS that i had borrowed.
Compared to the USA made PRS, there is no comparison. While the top on the SE Custom 24 is matched maple, I have to say it looked embarrasingly
un-matched, and it is by no means a sculpted body. Its rather a flat top with a bevel.
