Pixar Subdivision Surfaces

We've integrated Pixar's OpenSubdiv library to provide Pixar Subdivision Surfaces, with user definable subdivision levels per prop, figure or even individual body part. Subdivision improves bending fidelity, smooths polygonal surfaces and improves performance by enabling lighter poly-count content. Poser includes a new Unimesh skinning method to support subdivision on figures with compliant geometry.

Bullet Physics

Bullet Physics simulates Rigid Body dynamics, Soft Body dynamics, and dynamic strand based hair. Create rigid simulations with constraints to build complex mechanical interactions. Paint softbody constraint weights to animate.Use the Live Simulation mode to preview dynamics in realtime, or calculate simulations to include in rendered animations.

Comic Book Preview Mode

Use Poser's Color and B&W Comic Book Preview for static or animated toon imagery. This feature will enable you to create comic art with fantastic line control and color, or clean black and white outlines with persistent shading even when rotating or animating your point of view.

Interactive Raytrace Preview

Preview every scene change you make with the Interactive Raytrace Preview with a fast raytraced display. It's a great way to see changes to camera angle, lights, shadows with all the benefits of the optimized Firefly Raytrace engine including transparency and reflections.

Morph Brush

Morph Brush methods make it easier to tighten, loosen, sag, flatten smooth and restore any mesh, whether it's a prop, figure or conforming figure. The Goal feature lets you select a target to morph towards for precise fitting to any figure. Fine tune the morph creation process with the user definable Pokethrough Margin.

Magnet and Deformer Weight Map Painting Tools

Control the power of Poser's new Magnet and Deformer Weight Maps with painting tools that enable vertex by vertex editing. With the added precision of Weight Maps, deformers can be subtly edited to create brilliant content.

Material Compound Nodes

Create and distribute complicated materials in a simpler fashion with Compound Nodes. Select any group of individual material nodes and combine them into a single block. Users can expand Compound Nodes to edit the individual nodes, or leave them collapsed.

Over 5GB of Poser Content

Poser includes a complete collection of well organized, easy to find content supplied by talented third party content artists as well content created by the Smith Micro team of 3D artists. Fully articulated human skeletons that match the male and female figures body topology are included along with artist manikins, animals, dinosaurs and a dragon, robots, vehicles, toy and cartoon characters; over 70 ready to pose figures total.

SubSurface Scattering

Skin, wax, and marble are just some of the materials that are translucent when struck by light. To recreate this subtle yet crucial effect when rendering these materials in Poser, we've incorporated a set of easy to configure SubSurface Scattering Material Nodes. Nodes include SubSurface Skin, Fast Scatter, and basic Scatter. The Scatter Node includes a number of optimized pre-sets for Skin, Marble, Milk, Fruit and Vegetables. With Poser's new SubSurface Materials, you'll transform your scenes into rendered masterpieces with lifelike translucent surfaces.

Indirect Lighting

Poser offers indirect diffuse illumination by combining improved irradiance caching with path tracing, producing rendered images with Global Illumination qualities. By bouncing light and color from object to adjacent object in a scene, Poser’s Global Illumination system can render images that appear so realistic they can fool the untrained eye into thinking the images are photos rather than 3D renderings.

Weight Map Rigging

High-end professional 3D applications like Max and Maya have set the standard for Weight Map Rigging, and now both Poser and Poser Pro provide the most open vertex Weight Mapping support available to Poser users today. Weight Map Rigging offers several benefits including smoother bending folds and bulges with vertex by vertex control over every bend or bulge. Weight Maps can be added to any joint bend, to twist and scaling channels and can be used to control bulges.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Poser June 4, 2014
Poser 10 is not much different from Poser 9, which I already have and have reviewed. Most of the features that Poser 10 has and its 64 bit version, Poser Pro 2014 are the same as Poser 9.

But the newer version of Poser does include the new figures Rex and Roxie, which I like very much and they are quite realistic, but to my mind, not much more so than the Ryan and variants, and Alyson and variants from Poser 8. But the Rex and Roxie figures are excellent additions to the collection of humanoid figures you can use for posing, modeling, and creating characters and scenes with. And like all Poser figures, you can morph these figures to create distinctive characters. The faceroom works with these characters as does the morph tool where you can sculpt your own morphs directly into the figures. The Rex and Roxie figures have very high resolution texture maps too for very realistic skin textures.

The other new major enhancement that Poser 10/Pro 2014 has is the Pixar Subdivision tool. It does work, but it does not work so well with most of the older figures, although I was able to get it to work well with a couple of older Poser 3, 4, and 5 figures. The tool works and will subdivide the figure, but it subdivides most older figures with defects such as misplaced polygons, points or edges. It works best with the newer Poser figures, Poser 6 and above.

Subdivision is useful for additional smoothing the figures because sometimes in close ups the figure still sometimes has a slightly blocky appearance -- even with default smoothing applied, and also for improving bending and flexing of figures especially in the problem areas such as the elbows and knees where few polygons can make for ugly bending, for example, if you have a figure kneeling and sitting back on its heels.

This has to be THE most CLUELESS software company on the planet. I actually ran into their rep when the Siggraph conference came to New Orleans. While all the other booths were being run by upbeat people, theirs was manned by a scouring 40 something business type who seemed totally lost in the room full of creative people. I love talking to folks but had zero interest in approaching him. Unfortunately their approach to selling, upgrading and maintaining this software is just as backwards. Poser was once a great program. It has suffered more than it has improved under Smith Micro a company that seems to forget that details and quality count.

I have the old Efrontier Poser 7 and have owned every previous version since it was first created. It can be great fun and I have spent days immersed in it. The problems started when Smith Micro bought it. They were famous for things like "screen savers " and still have no real investment in being an innovator in the field of 3D animation. Their other program is 2D and a poor second to Toon Boom Studio. Poser deserved better!

I upgraded to their first version, Poser 8, and found it to be a bug ridden mess. The stock characters deformed when I tried to work with them, the long complicated license seemed to suggest only the pro version allowed you to do much with it and the various rooms I was used to using like materials and face were no better. I dumped it and went back to 7. When Poser 10 came along as a cheap upgrade, I decided to try it again...that was a week ago.

First it took me two days to load the software because the blanks that you insert the serial numbers in are not big enough to fit the whole number.

3.0 out of 5 stars Steep learning curve April 8, 2014
Verified Purchase
I am a DAZ3D user and purchased Poser 10 as a supposed upgrade. Poser works as advertised but is not really intuitive. I know how to make DAZ do what I want and have not completely figured out Poser yet. The "upgrade" didn't happen because Poser 10 doesn't really do things all that much better than DAZ, just differently. The content library is terrible (I though DAZ was bad but WOW Poser's really sucks). Amazon's price is not very competitive for this product either. I paid 80 something for it on Amazon and found it elsewhere online for sixty.

If I were starting out with 3D graphics, learning Poser would probably be better than DAZ but given I started with DAZ, I don't know if I'm going to bother to learn how to make Poser do what I want it to do.

Yaaaay - I'm familiar with the program and can't wait to dig deep using it. All was there, including a disc for Windows another for Mac - that is fantastic as I'll be getting a Mac soon.

Installed and it was updated not long after. Wonderful program and does exactly what I needed upon the purchase!

3.0 out of 5 stars Save your money June 4, 2014

As a fan of poser when i had poser 6 its good to refresh your 3-d skills with this, CUSTOMER SERVICE VIA EMAIL OR PHONE CALLS IS BASICALLY NONE EXISTENT, no return emails or if you can get thru the phone with out it ring busy all the time, too many of the ad-ons, figures and other material are NOT compatible or no longer available and the DSON importer is NOT compatible, you need to have Poser 2014 to use DSON importer to transfer any Poser 10 figures and files to it.
I personally think i wasted my money on Poser 10 and the few figures i purchased from DAZ studios.
