While installation of QuickLink Mobile 2.0 might be a quick and easy process, you should make sure your phone is compatible with the program before you purchase the software. You can verify this by going to www.ql2k.com and viewing an updated list of compatible phones. If your phone type is on the list, you can sign up to receive a free cable to connect your cell phone to your laptop serial port (ours took less than a week to arrive). You might want to take care of this as soon as you purchase the software so you don't have to wait too long to get started. If your type of phone is not on the list, QuickLink has a customer-service number for you to call; however, it's probably better to find a different application, or to upgrade to a data-enabled phone.
After you've configured your dialup networking and created an account for your wireless phone, you're ready to dial up. After you've connected to the Internet, you can surf the Web, check e-mail, and keep on top of the day's headlines. One feature that we especially liked was the Wireless Internet Accelerator, which allowed us to filter Web graphics and speed up connection times. In addition, you have the option to preview e-mail messages, so that you can read the headers without downloading the entire message--again, saving precious memory. The application even includes QuickLink Fax, which allows you to send and receive faxes using your cell phone.
QuickLink Mobile 2.0 also includes monitoring features to help you control your cellular Internet usage. However, keep in mind that surfing the Web with your cell phone can eat away at cellular time and battery life quickly. Still, if you're always on the go and can't live without your Internet fix, QuickLink Mobile 2.0 will keep you connected when you need it the most. --Gisele Toueg

QuickLink Mobile 2.0's Wireless Internet Accelerator filters Web graphics for the fastest cellular connection. That means you'll be downloading the data you want, not all of the time-intensive graphics found on most sites. Also included is a message preview function that displays only the subject lines of your incoming e-mail, and lets you choose which messages you want to download and read. QuickLink Mobile 2.0 also provides in-depth monitoring features to put you in control of your cellular Internet usage. The digital dashboard monitors your cell phone's battery and signal strength while call logging tracks your exact cellular Internet use.

Poor, Poor Customer Service,
By Macuser "Macuser" (Nashville, TN) - See all my reviews

I purchased this item to use with the Audiovox PC5220 and my Macintosh. It doesn't work, but they told me that only after I waited almost a week for a response to my support inquiry. I then requested a refund. It has been almost two months, and I finally got a denial email today. I have never encountered such horrendous customer service. This is the second time I've dealt with Smith Micro, and the first time was just as bad. Be warned -If you need any support on any of their products, you should be prepared to wait.....and wait.....and wait.... Also, buy it from a dealer, not direct, so that you can return it, if necessary.

Got this with a new "AirCard" and it would never connect. I definitely would warn against purchasing this product. Their support site doesn't even list the error code I was getting! They list some of the error codes, just not the ones I was getting, very frustrating.
