Product Description

All you want is a pair of headphones that slide into your Smith helmet, but it seems like every audio system available has extravagant side features that seem as ridiculous as having a snowboard with jets on the back and a flamethrower on the front. Smith solved this issue with its Skullcandy Direct Connect Drop-In Audio Kit. With this kit, you get Skullcandy's amazing sound system bumping in your helmet while you play in the park to your favorite tunes. And, because this kit doesn't come with a jet pack, you get what you want at a ridiculously affordable price, so it would be really difficult to head up the ski resort without it.

I own bose and beats headphones but was tired of risking damaging them while skiing / snowboarding. Very impressed with the sound that comes out of these. Even when they are max out on volume, they are clear. Only minor complaint, the cord breaks down into 3 pieces. I guess in cause you take a hard fall maybe they break apart, but 2 pieces would have been better. A volume button would have also been nice.

I bought these hoping that they would work in my motorcycle helmet, they did!!! I liked them so much that I bought a second pair for my other helmet. They worked great in both helmets (Icon and Bell). One helmet has pockets for speakers and one does not. It took some time to adjust the speakers in the helmet that does not have pockets but once I got them just right I don't feel them at all. I will buy these for any other helmets in the future. Def worth the price and then some.

I bought these speakers to use while riding my motorcycle. I do not have the Smith Helmet that it was designed for, I use a Vega helmet. They fit my helmet just fine and although I haven't used them while riding, they can really crank out some sound. Very happy with the price. Quality seems up to par for me. I would recommend this product. The only annoyance is that I will have to route the speaker cord behind me because of how my helmet is, but not a big deal.

I've tried a to ski a few times with my in-ear buds in place, and always found the experience uncomfortable and a little nerve-wracking... the earpads press in on the buds, the rub of the cord was transmitted into the buds, wind noise was high, and the lack of audible feedback (the sound of my edges on the snow, and more importantly, the sounds around me) really bugged me. I had hesitated for a long time to upgrade to in-helmet sound, but decided to give the Direct Connect Skull Candy audio for Smith Helmets (actually bought four pairs for the entire family).

The installation is a snap (even in my wife's non-Smith helmet, which had similar pockets in the ear pads), with a short pigtail emerging from the left earpad, and a double-male-ended connector to go from the helmet to your device.

Pros: Sound quality is very good, with typical Skull Candy bass bias. Wind noise isn't too much of an issue (and I was skiing fast on a very windy day) thanks to the placement inside the earpads. A good amount of ambient sound still makes it past the drop-in speakers, so you don't feel completely cut off, as long as you're not running the volume too loud. And, in the end, it's really nice just to have your favorite music playing while you do your favorite things. Adds to the pleasure in subtle ways.

Cons: The connector cord "breaks away" very easily if you catch it. For that matter, the fact that you *have* a connector cord dangling between your jacket and your helmet is kind of annoying (gong to look into a Bluetooth transceiver that can be plugged into the Skull Candy speakers instead). And... to be fair... listening to tunes while skiing with family and friends is a bit anti-social... even with moderate volumes, regular conversation is a bit dampened.

Overall, a good buy, good sound, decent design (ignoring the connector cable), and great service by the Amazon vendor who fulfilled my order.

I usually don't write reviews on Amazon, but I felt this one was worth writing the review for. I bought these for my Smith Optics helmet was totally impressed. They fit in their designated slots perfectly and sounded great. I played them for a solid 7 or 8 hours the other day while skiing in EXTREMELY cold temperatures and they delivered great sound and were extremely comfortable in my helmet. I also was able to find a great volume level that allowed me to clearly hear all of my music and be totally aware of sound and conversations around me. You never would have known I was having my own little concert in my helmet. For 25 bucks, you can't beat these!!!

Note: I did not notice any heavy base or treble with these. I was extremely happy with this and not looking for a heavy base or treble though; that would make it very difficult to hear around me which would have been dangerous and annoying in regards to any conversations.

The Skull Candy Drop-in Audio is a good set-up for Smith Helmet. The trouble with it is that their are no instructions.
It leaves it up yo you to figure it out. That is the trouble with this set-up no instructions for the set-up. However once you figure it out it does drop-in and the result is good. I think however that the headphone are too heavy on the bass side. But it is okay. So when you get the Skull Candy set up and you want to install on Smith...have patience....the small nodule for the headphone connection is above your left ear.......and easy does it with the zipper.

Had a great time listening to these while skiing the slopes. Good rich sound, even through my balaclava and skull cap. I highly recommend whether you're a youth blasting out some head bangin or a senior listening to some mellow stuff!

These fit into the zipper made for that purpose on the helmet.....sound quality is great. We will reserve judgement about the construction and durability issues as it is used "over time". We have season passes to our Mountain and ski 3-4x per week.
Helmet on, helmet off......plug in, plug out.......it will be a while before we can rate the durability of the crucial connections.

The last set (not skull candy) in my new helmet lasted about 18 months and I am a cautious adult user of my Ipod........
electronics are made in China and appear to be quite flimsy in construction and designed so that entire replacement is required when connection fail. I do not agree with this low quality of design product marketing, especially in technology items.

So far your product is 4 STAR ****.
Thanks.
