5.0 out of 5 stars Great Knife for Everything

3.0 out of 5 stars Smith & Wesson Cuttin Horse Knife

I bought 3 of these, because I loved my first one so much...it was blue and I always carried it. These are black w/the same name, but are not the same. The first one could be disassembled completely (which is necessary for proper maintenance. These cannot. The lock releases are reversed and that's taking forever to get used to. Also, the logo plate tends to...

Cons:

There's really not a lot wrong with this knife. I didn't have any issues at all with it, and have been nothing but satisfied. It's a great, well made knife, and I enjoy having it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great knife...bought three, February 26, 2009
This review is from: Smith & Wesson CH400DLB Cuttin Horse Black Double Lock (Sports)
Rarely have need for a knife like this and am happy to have the small and very slim pocket knife that I've carried for years. Saw this Smith & Wesson on special and purchased a couple for my home and truck emergency kits. Rugged looking and solidly built and no doubt the mean looking serrated blade will chew thru who knows what. Bought a third one for my sister and told her to throw in in to her emergency kit.
The quality appears top notch and can't beat the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars I miss mine., September 29, 2011
This review is from: Smith & Wesson CH400DLB Cuttin Horse Black Double Lock (Sports)
I am buying a new one. I lost my old one. I am deeply saddened. The knife is easy to open, which is important for me because I have no fingernails to speak of. I feel naked without it.

This review is as much a memento of my time with my former knife as it is a review. I didn't even look for other options when I decided it was time to accept my loss and replace it. I went straight to Amazon to find THIS knife.

I bought one a long time ago. . . at least 7 years, maybe 10. I got it at a local gas / liquor / tackle shop. I've carried it every day for years. I've used it as a knife, a screwdriver, and a pry bar. I never leave without it. Last week, I'm sad to say it has left me. It was perfectly good. . . had a couple cosmetic cracks in the plastic handle but was still functionally as good as new. I just don't know where it went. For the past week, I have felt empty every time I have reached into my pocket. I loved having the full size straight AND serrated blades. Never had a need for a knife that this one couldn't fulfill.

I recently purchased this knife. I received it on time. I am very please with this knife. I have never owned a double knife before. It is great for work or self-defense item. It looks very scary when I hold it in my hand. Fits easily in my pocket without feeling heavy. I would highly recommend this knife for self-defense.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good expendable knife, June 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I initially bought just one because I had one in the past, others I showed it to also wanted one so I bought 4 more. Great for daily use and not having to worry about damaging the blade at that price, just buy a another one. Only issue is I have to grind down the blade stop on the serrated blade. I found out the hard way that the tip sticks out just enough to catch you hand when sliding it into your pocket while the knife is clipped on the inside of pocket, nice slice of hand with bleeding. The fix is to just grind down the edge side stop at the base of the blade to have it close deeper inside the handle. I had to do this to 3 of the 5 that I ordered.
All in all I like it's awsome double blade action, one straight edge and one serrated instead of split. Also looks very intimidating when both are open.
Side note: Being a Smith & Wesson tagged product I wish it was made in the USA, not China. But that's why it's expendable, I would never use my USA made top quality exspensive knives for anything but to show off in my collection.

The first one could be disassembled completely (which is necessary for proper maintenance. These cannot. The lock releases are reversed and that's taking forever to get used to. Also, the logo plate tends to fall off after a very short time. I like my first one (which was more expensive by far), but until I re-work these, I don't like them nearly as much. The edge seems fine, but since I haven't used them much, I don't know how long it will hold. I've switched to Gerber as my carry/work knife.

This model from Smith & Wesson is by far my favorite out of about 7 knives I have from their collection. I actually have two; one as my work knife and the 2nd for casual dress.
