4.0 out of 5 stars Chopping Machine !!, December 27, 2010

This review is from: Smith & Wesson CKSUR7 Bullseye Search and Rescue 10.5" Fixed Blade Kukri Powder Coat (Sports)
Got this knife for my son to use while bushwacking. This thing is sick, $30... are you kidding me? Sturdy and well made with a thick backbone. We took it to the backyard and went to work on some pine. It chops well. The sheath is large and heavy but well made and useful... could be worth 30 bucks alone!

Didn't baton yet but looks like it would do the job fine. Strangely, the tang does jiggle and squeak a bit at the rear of the handle but it still feels solid and comfortable. It seems like the tang ends before it reaches the lanyard hole which causes the jiggle. The Tang is also cut back signifcantly after it enters the handle... I hope it doesn't snap. I would rather see a full tang, meaning you can see the tang all around the attached scales instead of slipping the handle "over" a "minimized" tang. If this was the case I would give it 5 stars.

The black coat on the blade is durable and did not come off while chopping. Don't know what the 10.5" designation in the title refers to - this knfe is almost 14' long and the blade itself from guard to tip is just over 8.5". Blade thickness is a hair under 7/32". So far so good.

Funny that this blade is so much better than the S&W large 13.5" fixed blade w/micarta handle which bent and broke after using it for only a few minutes. It looked good before it broke though!

Update 13 Jan 2011:

Got a chance to hack away at some low hanging pear tree branches and baton some pine. The guard did come a bit loose but this happens when beating on it and didn't affect its functionality at all. The edge is strong enough and holds up well. I also tried these same tasks with my Gerber Gator combo camp axe. The Kukri was surprisingly better at wacking off branches and batoning but the axe was better at chopping logs - this is what its made for. This is a good, inexpensive workhorse. I'm getting another!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Value, September 26, 2005
Good, durable blade. Mine rattles slightly in the handle but retains a sturdy feel. The included sharpener works wonderfully.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ok Kukri, September 17, 2008

A nice Kukri - what I expected. A knife that seems intended for slashing and stabbing. If you need a knife for sawing or cutting through thick, tough rope forget it - this is not your knife. This knife is ideal for slashing through light foliage and stabbing targets (I have yet to actually stab an enemy with this lol hopefully I'll never have to). I found this to be a little heavy for a knife. Nice handle - provides good control. It has an awesome sheath that goes on a belt loop. I recommend using this Kukri with another knife - one that can saw through tough, stubborn material. Interchange knives based on the situation.
