Umarex Scores Another Hit!,
By
This review is from: Smith & Wesson M&P BB Pistol Black Finish Semi-Auto CO2 Md: 2255050 (Misc.)
At first I hesitated getting this BB pistol, but I liked the design of the REAL pistol so much, I just had to check it out.
And at LESS than $40 (back when I got it in January, anyway), I figured what the heck... I was NOT disappointed! The pistol weighs in under a pound, is all composite material, but DOES have a metal clip that drops from the grip (nice). It has a good heft to it, and comes pretty close to a REAL S&W M&P 40 (empty). It holds around 19-20 rounds (BBs) depending on how crowded you want them, and the release for the clip has the same actuator as the REAL deal. The pistol has a manual safety on the right side of the frame exactly where your trigger finger falls, so it's VERY easy to place ON or OFF. Now...for the really "good" stuff. The pistol is WICKED accurate (within fifteen feet - the length of my basement "shooting gallery"), and even shooting off-hand, one-handed, you can hit what you're aiming at with relative ease, in spite of FIXED front & rear sights. Front sight is a blade w/ white dot - rear sight is green fiber optic loop w/ 2 dots. Be nice if the rear sight was adjustable, but it really doesn't need it all that much. It's a straight-shooter! And it doesn't mind being SHOT FAST one bit. It is DOUBLE-ACTION only, so you've got a long trigger pull, but it's under 5 pounds, therefore, no finger fatigue. I have torn the heck out of several soda cans with NO ricochet, so that means it WILL penetrate...remember that. Get a good backstop if indoors. The pistol is rated at 480 FPS w/ a range of 350 YDS. I'd have to say that with a fresh CO2 cartridge loaded, that's pretty darned close. It's got BALLS, that's for sure. I managed about 80-90 shots per 12G cylinder, so no complaints there. If there are any "faults" to speak of...I just wish it had a BLOWBACK feature. It CRIES OUT for it. When I opened it up, I even tried to "rack" it, and then remembered the slide was fixed. Yeah, it looks THAT real. And since it LOOKS real, be careful NOT to be doing anything that neighbors or police might take an "interest" in...it WILL fool most anyone and could be taken to be a REAL pistol. This is one of THE best BB pistols for the price. Umarex swung with this and knocked it clean OUT of the ballpark. In other words...they "DONE GOOD". Now...all I need are a few more MAGS. Shoot safely and enjoy yourself. Bob G.

This review is from: Smith & Wesson M&P BB Pistol Black Finish Semi-Auto CO2 Md: 2255050 (Misc.)
I've had this gun for about 2 months now and I love it. It looks very realistic and has a fairly heavy feel to it. The FPS seems very near the stated value -- it's definitely powerful. It's a great gun for target shooting or keeping those pesky rodents out of your garden. However, it should be noted that if you're looking for an airsoft gun, THIS IS NOT IT. This is a BB GUN and CANNOT be used in airsoft arenas. The difference is that this uses 4.5mm copper (i've yet to find plastic) rounds whereas airsoft uses 6mm plastic rounds.
Now my only real issues with this gun are these: VERY hard to find extra magazines. I've only found ONE site that claims they sell extra magazines for this gun and it was priced at $35 -- practically the cost of the gun. Another issue I have is with the magazine itself. At the beginning, the magazine held the rounds well, but it's slowly starting to malfunction. That is, the piece that holds the rounds from flying out of the magazine doesn't always do it's job. It often takes me 2 or 3 times to actually load the magazine because everytime I let the spring come forward, the rounds go flying out. And it's not because I let the spring just fly -- I do ease it up. That piece just doesn't hold the bb's down nearly as well anymore. My last issue is the trigger -- you have to squeeze the trigger to the VERY END, and that little spring action at the end really throws your aim off. Now it's not an issue with larger, torso sized, targets but if you're going for pinpoint accuracy, it'll definitely take some practice to compensate for it. In the end, this is a GREAT bb gun for the price. I love mine.

Good Choice,
This review is from: Smith & Wesson M&P BB Pistol Black Finish Semi-Auto CO2 Md: 2255050 (Misc.)
Packaging: Plastic case, same as other pistols like this get.
Look: Nice, sleek and realistic. Does not have a visible screw for the co2 on the outside. Has front rails, if your into that sort of thing. Safety: On the right side, have to push it in to move it forward and back. Lefties would have trouble with this. Trigger: Long, lots of creep. Gets to a pretty tough point and then it'll shoot. Could of been better. Feel: Feels real, has a good heft, not as heavy as the real thing. The magazine is metal, and its pretty smart loading system once you get the hang of it, but an extra mag would be nice. I hear this can use the Crosman C11 magazines, if so, make sure you get the .177 and not the 6mm. Sights/Accuracy: The rear sights are green fiber optic, front sight is a post with a painted dot. On my gun, the white dot was off center, doesn't matter too much, but still something i noticed. A pretty accurate gun, at around 50 ft, i can hit wrist thick trees no problem. After that, the bb's will start to veer a little, but i'd say its still accurate past that. Sound: Bit quieter than a spring airsoft pistol. Co2 use: Just slide the handgrip back and that opens up the housing for the co2. Place it in and screw. I've shot about 5 mags before the co2 gets low, so thats about 90 shots. (Magazine holds 17-19 rounds, depending how you do it). I'd say its definitely a good buy. At 480 ft/s, it shoots faster than anything Wal-Mart carries instock right now, also better looking. Smith & Wesson did a real good job here. Easy to use.
