5.0 out of 5 stars I love my knife
I bought one of these knives to replace my switchblade (which had broken), and I immediately fell in love with it. 2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Construction-Fell apart
I carry a knife daily for very moderate use opening packages, cutting small diameter rope. The knife works well for that and the "skateboard" grip is very practical.

The downside is that the knife started falling apart after only a few weeks of carring. I found a very small screw in my pocket and assumed it came from the knife but could not see from where...

I bought one of these knives to replace my switchblade (which had broken), and I immediately fell in love with it. The thumb stud is perfectly positioned and the opening of the knife is smooth and fast. This is by far the sharpest knife out-of-the-box I have ever owned. The construction is tight; the blade does not rattle around like with some of the other spring assisted knives I have. The pocket clip is useful and well designed. The handle is well proportioned and fits well in my hand, and the friction surfaces on it (kinda like grip tape or sandpaper) prevent any slipping.

There are two minor faults-not enough to lower the star rating but worth mentioning. First, don't be an idiot like me and leave the blade wet; it will start to rust just a bit. More cosmetic than anything. Second, the lever on the back (the secondary way of opening the knife) has a plastic bit that broke off of mine; it pressed against the corner of my pocket in such a way that it just snapped off after a few months. It was a one in a hundred type of deal, and if I had known about it, it could have been avoided easily.

But seriously, this is the best knife I have ever owned. Perfect for normal utility jobs, and it will last lifetime.

Awsome knife, smooth mechanics, SHARP, quick open, very well built. I'm very pleased with this knife. Out of all of the AO knives that I own - this is the best hands down. Would recommend and will buy more of this brand!

4.0 out of 5 stars Had To Send For Replacement, October 8, 2010

I loved the knife, but the safety switch broke on me after a week and had to send for a replacement. The knife is light and small enough to carry in your pocket. I thought the blade would be longer and narrower, but i like the knife and use it everyday. Hopefully the safety switch won't brake on me again with the new one.

I also own a S&W medium size Homeland Security knife and there is really no comparison.

The SWAT knife is smaller, lighther and much easier to open, as it is truly an "assisted opening" model.

The blade is extremely sharp and the safety provides an excellent sense of security.

Anyone in the market for a knife of this type needs to look seriously at this one. The price is very modest for such quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars spring assist, June 15, 2010

overall a very good knife, sharpest ive yet owned, and the spring assist was awesome. After about a week of use, the spring assist suddenly lost its kick, and now can only open the blade half way, which is useless. i can somewhat compensate by flicking my wrist to open the blade, but i was very disapointed, and im going to try and get it replaced. 4 stars. would have been 5 but the spring broke... still a very nice knife, just lost its cool factor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Knife!, September 16, 2011

I purchased this knife solely based on the reputation that S&W has for their firearms. Solid build. High quality. My review is only based on initial quality because I have only had it for a few days. The assist feature is very nice. When closing the blade back into the handle, there is more resistance than I expected; compared to a standard lock blade because you are "recoiling" the spring so to speak. The grip tape that people talk about is only on the outside of the handle (opposite side of the pocket clip). This makes it easier to hold on to. The one thing I was worried about is the grip tape on the inside chewing up my pants pockets. S&W thought this through and put a smooth texture tape on that side to prevent that. Overall, I would definitely recommend this knife to a friend. For under $30, you can't beat it!

I carry a knife daily for very moderate use opening packages, cutting small diameter rope. The knife works well for that and the "skateboard" grip is very practical.

The downside is that the knife started falling apart after only a few weeks of carring. I found a very small screw in my pocket and assumed it came from the knife but could not see from where. I had to take the knife apart to see the internal workings. The external screws were very loose already and once inside I realized that one of the screws had already fallen out and was lost, and the other was very loose. If they would use a little lock-tight on all of the screws it would be a much better knife but right now I am walking around with a knife that is missing an internal screw and I practically had to rebuild it myself after only about 4 weeks of carrying.

A Review of the SWAT MB Knife from Smith and Wesson. A very well made knife that has a spring assist. Very sharp and useful. Black finish and has a built in locking mechanism. One of the better knifes on the market. It has a very swift "action" and opens with authority. Purchased from Amazon.com and delivered on time.[...]

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice knife, January 27, 2012

Good points:
Seems to be solidly constructed.
Very sharp as received.
Opens easily with button on back side.
Safety button is a good feature.

Not so good:
Seems a bit heavy for a pocket knife.
Hard to open using studs on blade, although you don't need to open it that way.
When closed, the tip of the blade is very close to the surface of the butt. If you drag your finger over the butt you can get jabbed by the point.

Overall I like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very solid knife, January 3, 2012

I've always been a picky person with knives. Being an Eagle Scout and going on countless camping, hiking, etc., trips, I understand the need for a good blade. After reading a few reviews and comparing a bunch of different knives on Amazon, I decided on this one.

My first thoughts for taking this knife out of the box and opening it was the ease and speed of how it opened (a simple flick with my index finger) and how sharp the blade it. There are no serrated edges (which I love, I've always found them to be a nuisance) in lue of a few grooves on the top back of blade (right next to the handle behind the opener on the blade). It has a decent weight and feels very solid.

This is my first knife with a dual locking mechanism and so far I am very impressed with it. You flick it open, the first piece moves into place to hold the blade with no wiggle room, and the second lock prevents the blade from moving, even if you move the first piece out of the way. When used together, I don't think the blade would ever come down. There is no wiggle room whatsoever, but if need be all of the screws appear to be removable (they are torx screws just so you know). It's not too narrow or wide and fits comfortably in my pocket and on my belt, however the grip can make it difficult to take out of my pants pocket.

I have fairly large hands but it fits nicely and feels well balanced (I guess as well balanced and knives can be?). The grip seems to be the same material that is on skateboards and provides a steady, albeit rough, hold.

When closed, it locks tightly and with the lock in place there is very little movement when attempting to open it.

Overall, this seems to Smith & Wesson has proved themselves again with this knife.
