Excellent Tactical Knife,
By El Hermano Guero (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Smith & Wesson SWHRT3 HRT Military Boot Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
When I received the knife it was so sharp that I cut myself removing it from the box. It has a very strong stainless steel blade that was fully sharpened on both edges (not just one). The handle was a little bit small for my large hands, but it has a very comfortable contour and ergonomic rubber grip. The sheath is hard plastic that protects you from the blade, as well as protect the blade itself. The knife actually stays in the sheath unless you draw it, unlike many other knives that always fall out when you are biking and running. The knife is also perfectly balanced for throwing, and responds quite well. This knife comes with my highest recommendations, unless, of course, you have larger hands than I have. Great product for a great price.

This is an excellent knife for practically anything. It's extremely sharp on both sides, totally waterproof(knife and case) and easy to carry on the hip or concealed. A while back I went mud bogging with it strapped to my leg because you never know when you'll need a sharp knife. I was up to my waist in mud and dirty water, and it never came out of the case and formed no rust whatsoever after I got home and washed it off. I recommend this knife for anyone with a knife collection or maybe a wife or sister who needs some self defense in their purse. Excellent product. Thanks S&W!

The things you need to know about this knife: The sheathe is incredibly durable and holds the knife in through friction on the rubber grip. Fastened on a belt, webbing or a boot, and with a pull it comes out, and the sheathe stays on. The knife itself is double edged with about 3 inches of blade and 1 of bolster. The grip is a very sticky sort of rubber so sweaty hands aren't an issue on the draw or grip. It's not a big knife, so don't expect some giant K-Bar. This is a perfect backup, sharp as a razor (after a little honing) and perfect in the hand. It isn't obivious on the outside of clothing, and in a boot it would be completely discrete.
Finally, since most of us aren't out and about stabbing people, if you dull about 3/4 of the black from the bolster, it is the ULTIMATE letter opener. Sounds silly, but double duty isn't a bad thing in a tool.

I deceided to buy this since I have an like the black bladed single edge version. I am a lil disapointed with this one though. The point isnt really sharp like most double edged boot knives. The blade edges look like they were ground uneven an off center, its almost like the knife I recievced shouldve been in the "seconds" bin as it has imperfections. The blade edges arent as sharp as they could be as well, one shouldnt have to hone a knifes edge when its fresh outve the package.

Nice knife, but not as advertised here,

Amazon advertises this knife having a double-edged spear point blade. The blade is of a spear point style, but I was rather disappointed to find out that the second edge is actually a false edge. The sheathe is cheap plastic and next to useless. If you tilt the sheathe even slightly upside down, the knife falls out. The knife in general is good quality for the price. The rubberized handle is nice and gives it a good weight. If you are looking for a small, single-edge boot knife and don't care about a lower quality sheathe, I recommend this knife. However, again, I am disappointed in the fact that a knife advertised as double edge only has one edge.

Although I like this knife, it is NOT double edged. One edge is sharpened enough to cut plastic freezer vege's bags readily, but will not cut a hair. The second side is untouched, rounded, shiny but useless. I am going to spend more of my time and equipment than this knife is worth trying to put an edge on the second side, and properly sharpen the other side. I would NOT buy this knife in a store, with the opportunity to inspect it. BTW, I am writing a favorable review for the other SW boot knife I ordered at the same time: SWHRT9B. Skip this one.

Pros - nice blade, sharp point, and feels solid.
Cons - not double bladed as description claims. This is not a double bladed knife or it was made so poorly that it's not sharpened on one side.

Not quite what it says....,

Decent knife for the money....one thing you should be aware of however is that this knife is NOT a double-edged knife as advertised. This is a single edge knife with a false edge on the other side. With the design of this knife, it is VERY difficult to tell by quickly looking at it which edge is sharpened and which one is not. If you are to use this as a utility knife for some reason, that could be a problem if you happen to put your thumb or finger on the false edge to apply downward pressure only to find out it is the sharpened edge. Also, as a defensive knife, this could create a problem if you are to use it in a slashing manner since you will not know whether or not you are using the sharpened or false edge to slash with. A good knife for stabbing, but unless you go through the pain and effort of sharpening the false edge (like I did....not recommended) pretty much a cheap stabbing instrument. I checked on the S&W Website and this is actually designed as a single edge blade, they do make another model that is dual edged...but this one is not it.
Other than that, the grip is comfortable, the blade is a nice size and the sheath retains the knife well, although it too is a little on the cheap side, particularly the plastic retaining clip which I feel should be spring steel....what do you expect for under $20? Would I buy it again? Probably not...I would spend some extra bucks and get a knife that is truly double edged.

I ordered this knife on a whim, seeing as I am tired of "tactical" folding knives in general. My state allows (LOL my safety is allowed by my state, go figure) the carrying of double edged knives and I am a concealed weapons permit holder.
But anyways, the knife its self is very high quality, the steel is exceptionally high grade (not sure what alloy, but it is strong!). Full tang construction and the rubberized grip is very comfortable to hold and will not slip upon a thrusting strike. The spear point double edged blade is not very long, but then again, it doesnt have to be. This knife is designed as a fighting knife, and as such requires the user to be at least somewhat competent of what he/she is doing with this tool. That being said, the blade is quite thick and has a strong penetrating point, I dont worry about it breaking no matter what I decide to test it on (short of concrete and steel). It also arrived with a steel bead lanyard, and a kydex holster/sheath. The sheath its self is quite nice, no burred edges and the blade lockup is strong. I actually find it works better now that I have taken the blade out a few times and gotten it broken in. My only real gripe with this sheath, is that it has a removable belt clip that slides into a nook on the backside of the sheath and is not actively retained by anything other than material surface friction. This was an issue when I tried to belt carry the knife, I actually had the knife and sheath fall into my back pocket while I was walking leaving the belt clip attached to my person. The dual purpose, neck knife/belt carry, is a good idea but the execution is lacking in this area. If a simple press down locking mechanism were introduced into the carry clip it would be nearly perfect for belt carry, but until that happens or unless you decide you want to super glue it down I would not recommend belt carry. Overall I would rank this knife/sheath combo an 8/10...good value for a high quality defense weapon. Almost forgot to mention the customer service of Green Valley Place is exceptional...buy from them.

I bought this knife from Cedar Crate. This was advertised as a double-edge boot knife. When it arrived, I opened the box to find that only one edge existed, the second hadn't even been touched. It was not like the edge was poorly sharpened, it was just flat, like the steel was stamped out of a sheet, and the flat edge was just left there. Incredibly disappointing. Furthermore, the edge that had been beveled and "sharpened" was so dull that even when pressing down with all my body weight (mind you, I weigh a solid 170 lbs.) it still could not cut a piece of cardboard. Had the item cost more, I would have returned it, but the price of the return freight is half of what I paid for the knife. I would not buy this knife again, EVER. If you still choose to buy this item, choose a different vendor than Cedar Crate.
