This pen is as heavy-duty as you need. I have a few in different colors. I replaced all my ink pens with gel refills Parker Refill for Retractable Gel Ink Pens, Medium, Black Ink, 2 per Pack (30525PP). You will not be disappointed with this combination.
Tactically, this pen is short and you need to hold it using a ice-pick grip for it to be effective.

The pen is solid, well-built; weight is adequate, comfortable to carry on pant or shirt pocket; clip secures it firmly to both. In my opinion, only half an inch shorter than optimum length, but this is my opinion, I am sure designers will have a justification (cost or practical) for size. Like it over M&P because the cap of this one screws, and the other clicks in, personal preference, but M&P is longer.

From the get go, you know it from the feel it's looks like a sharp stylus/pen. The tip whether closed or open looks like it'll get the job done. All I know is, I'd rather not be stabbed by this thing, and it's a very, very, very cost effective alternative to buying a brand name Benchmade tactical pen. The price is right on this one. It's definitely a good alternative to carrying a knife around (which in my state and many others would make a cop question and at the least confiscate it). Good as a gift for the women in the family if they tend to forget the pepper spray, since they could easily remember to always bring a pen to write at work with.

Pen fulfills all the requirements of a Tactical Pen - solid, meaty feel with good texturing for a solid grip. The only problem was that the cap separates from the body with the normal vibrations caused by daily carry. It happened often enough that I had to remind myself to tighten the cap daily if I did not use it for writing. I carried mine in the pen slot on my tactical pants for 4 months before the cap of the pen vibrated off and disappeared. This is the only problem I had with an otherwise excellent product.

Overall it's OK. It is definitely heavy enough and with the proper tactical strength to do the job. What I don't like about it is the cap does not fix on the other end when writing so it just falls off or I have to set it on the desk or put it in my pocket. It writes well and isn't really all that heavy for writing all day long. I work in medicine so do a lot of writing. It fits my hand well. My only gripe is that the top is hard to deal with.

Synopsis: I like a wide variety of defensive items on my person while on patrol.
Pros: Nice sharp business end. Sturdy construction. Nicely machined finish. Strong clip. Fits nicely in 5.11 (new style) unifrom shirts. Cons: Finish a little too smooth for grip. Thumb must be placed on end when striking to keep from slipping grip. Cap does not screw on to end, end should have been threaded as well to hold cap secureley.

Click on Cap V.S. Screw on Cap?,

Just got mine today. It's my second tactical pen. My daughter lost my KZ Scorpion(A far superior tac pen)and I was bummed to say the least that they were not available anymore. So the hunt for a replacement began. I settled on the S&WBK VS the S&WMP version for the simple fact that 1st it is Tactical, 2nd it's a Pen. If I were ever forced into a situation that required my inserting this Tactical Pen into the flesh of another human being I would not want the "click on cap" to be in my hand and the actual part I need to be stuck in the bad guy, pit bull, when I go for the second strike. I am not aware of any quality knife that has a "click on handle". I am sure this will not make sense to some. For those that get my drift I hope my 2cents was worth your time reading this review.

This is a great pen that should last for a long time. You've heard the phrase "The pen is mightier than the sword" this can be both if needed.

So my pops is a black belt in kenpo and a ccw holder. He absolutely loves this pen. He thought he was great that he could carry a kubotan style weapon that was easily accessible and effective. He is a pen collector as well, so this was a win-win situation as far as gift giving goes. He carries it everywhere he goes, especially when he travels. We both highly recommend this product.

I own this pen and love it. There is some necessary weight to it but not enought to make it uncomfortable. When writing the cap is a little awkward on the top and, again, not a big problem. Owners should plan ahead which end they would use in different situations. The pointed end could prove fatal and you have to be sure the circumstance warrents deadly force. A big plus is the clip. It is tight and I don't think it will ever fall out of a pocket. Oh yes, this pen writes and writes comfortably and well.
