Ideal for sharpening skinning/filet knives, the Jiffy-Pro also includes a scissors sharpener integrated into the handle. It uses a patented "floating" carbide rod that adjusts to fit the precise bevel of the blades, and it's been specifically enlarged to accommodate game shears.

The crossed carbide blades used in the head of the Jiffy-Pro are precision ground to provide smoother, more consistent metal removal when setting the edge on a very dull or damaged straight edge blade. The extra-fine, crossed ceramic rods on the side of the sharpener are designed to finish and polish the edge to razor sharpness. They are also excellent to use for maintaining an already sharp cutting edge by pulling the blade through the sharpening slot three or four times before each use and as soon as you notice it’s not working as well as it should during use.

The Jiffy-Pro has a soft grip, rubber handle for a firm, comfortable grip in all conditions and is made of lightweight, durable plastic. It fits in your pocket or backpack, or can easily be attached to your belt or pack because of the uniquely designed finger guard, which is open on one end.

Abrasives

  • Pull Over: Precision-ground carbide (coarse)
  • Pull Through: Extra-fine ceramic (1,000 grit)
  • Scissors: Carbide rod (coarse)

The results have been far more than adequate for a pocket knife, and I also sharpened a few dull kitchen knives as well.

This is a good solid knife sharpener. This style of sharpener has been around for quite a while now, and this seems to be an attempt to perfect this style/design. This one is a little bigger than some of the older ones, but it is light weight, more comfortable, and probably safer.

You have the standard Carbide v-sharpener at a fixed angle in the head. The carbide looks and feels like it's high grade, but a distructive test would be required to actually test the grade. This should really work well for blades that are not regularly maintained. An extra feature with this model is that the carbide blades can be removed and replaced (providing you can find replacements at the time). In addition to inserting replacements, you can reverse them which will allow you to get more usage out of them if you are a heavy user or need to fix a few really bad edges. In addition one might be able to replair them with a diamond stone sharpener for extra long life. This is a very nice feature for the heavy knowledgable user.

The best way to keep a knife sharp and in great condition is to never let it get dull... this simple tip can not be over stressed. To help with that, this sharpener also includes second sharpener; a set of Ceramic Rods in a fixed angled V configuration that can be used to put an even finer edge on a blade. The real advantage to having this option is that once your knives are sharp, you can use this sharpener to regularly maintain a very sharp edge without removing much metal at all and thus keep them almost like new. This addtion really allows this style of sharpener to reach closer to a true all-in-one sharpener for regular kitchen knives and the general user.

Making this sharpener even more versatile, it includes a scissors/shears sharper.

I just bought this from Cabellas and have to say that it is just as good as diamond honing sharpening tools which are at least 3x the price. In addition it can be a lot safer if you have never used a knife sharpener before and are insecure about flailing a large knife close to your knuckles. I highly recommend it especially for the BBQ enthusiast!

For the money, this is the best sharpener on the market today. You can sharpen kitchen knifes without the danger of cutting yourself and it does it so quickly, you won't believe it. It also works great on my filet knifes as well.

This sharpener is not intended for use in sharpening serrated edge blades or blades with a flat grind on just one side of the blade.

Keep in mind this sharpener is only for straight edge knives with a flat grind on both sides of the blade.

That being said, this is a good-decent tool for use with household knives, scissors/shears, and smaller straight edge knives. It wont get your items "razor" sharp but pretty close to it.

It's lightweight and easy to handle. For the price I paid, (10.00 with free shipping) its a good deal.

I have a cheap set of Rachael Ray knives in the kitchen that don't hold an edge very long. A couple strokes through this sharpener before use and my knives cut like a charm. Good knives are nice to have, but spend $10 on this and run your crappy blades through it every so often and you'll have knives that will perform like much more expensive ones. The scissor sharpeners are also nice to have and work great although I don't use them very often. The ease and speed of use combined with the great results makes this well worth the price. You won't regret this purchase.

I've looked for years for an easy, portable, safe to use, highly effective blade sharpener. Look no further than this Smith's 50185 Jiffy-Pro Handheld Sharpener. OK! Are you ready for this? This product does "EXACTLY" what they say it will do and you better believe the instructions and not try to over sharpen anything. There is absolutely no need to and it will not improver the performance of the blade. The bottom line here folks, this product is excellent in every respect especially because it sharpens both right and left handed scissors. My wife was shocked at the unbelievable fine performance of our dullest blades, once I very quickly and easily sharpened them on this sharpener. This Smith's Jiffy-Pro Handheld Sharpen is so well designed and performs at such a high level, I would highly recommend buying several to keep in the boat, camper, toolbox, car and of course that drawer where you keep all kinds of 'stuff' like this. Yes, 5 stars this product has earned in my book. I found it to be a pretty "sharp" well performing product.

Before I sharped any of my knives, I sliced a tomato to test how dull is the knife. It was dull alright. After I sharpened 9 knives and sliced a tomato, it cut right through. I've been using a stone knife sharpener for a few years and it's time consuming, so my hubby refuse to sharp any knife. I dislike the rock residue too. Until I got this, it's just a few slice sharpening so he doesn't mind helping. As for the scissor, I tested on cutting a piece of cloth and it didn't cut well. But after sharpening, cutting the fabric was a breeze. It's safe, quick, will definitely sharp scissors and knives!
