So far, I've enjoyed these odd creatures as they wallow in my tank. I've found that using a small flourescent light or LED next to the tank creates sufficient lighting for the little buggers, but not so much as to fry them. I reccomend putting tin foil over a third of the tank to facilitate a private "sleeping area"(I doubt tadpole shrimp actually sleep, but sometimes they tire of the dark; the castle becomes too small for them after about a week and a half, thus knocking a point off my score of this kit.) I was extremely worried when I didn't notice any Triops swimming in the water on the second day. After carefully observing, I saw that tiny specks of white were indeed swimming about in the tank. They promptly began doubling in size every other day after I began feeding as per the directions. Quite fun, really. I'm still on my first batch, though I hope the second batch does as well. They really don't need much care, just lots of attention to make you feel that it was worth it. Do buy this kit, or at least some Triops kit. You won't regret it.

My son received this kit for Christmas. After following the directions the best we could (as another reviewer stated, there is not a lot of specific info in the directions), nothing at all has happened. No eggs have hatched. Big disappointment for my son. Don't waste your money.

They never hatched. Poor directions. Disappointing for children (and adults). Major waste of money. Can't figure out how to get in touch with the company. Will not purchase smithsonian "educational" experiments again.

Purchased as gift for daugther. Picture on box looks much better than what's actually in box. Triops did not hatch. Would advise against buying.

They do not grow. Waste of money! Crummy little tank. Nice showy outside box with no substance whatsoever.

The directions on the box are too vague. There is no information on water temperature or how much light they need. Our first batch of eggs did nothing. After doing research on the web & following tips, we tried to hatch a second batch. We only got (2) - we expected (6). There should be more specific directions and you may get a bad batch of eggs. I can't find information on how to communicate with the company. I guess to try a 3rd time we will have to purchase another batch of eggs. The cost of the replacement eggs plus S&H is almost the same price we paid for the kit.

Completely bogus. None (zero) of the eggs hatched. I tried to contact vendor by phone and email, but the phone is not staffed and the email was not answered. Complete waste of money unless you want the little plastic castle for an aquarium ornament. This is the worst "educational" toy I have ever purchased. Instead of "prehistoric sea monsters", you get a bunch of modern-day wood dust floating on water.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 12 year old son. It was something that he specifically requested. We followed the directions exactly and the sea creatures never grew. It was very disappointing for him. He still asks me why they didn't grow. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!Prehistoric Sea Monsters NSI03268
