This book is invaluable in exposing the Roman Catholic Church.

Jack Chick warns from the beginning of this book to BEWARE of the Roman Catholic Church. Jack insists that Rome has historically called a "cease fire" to bring ecumenism just before she strikes with the hot iron of persecution. Anyone who knows the history of the Christian Church can readily recall the horrors that the Roman Catholic Whore has brought upon Christ's church. Pick up Martyr's Mirror or Foxe's Book of Martyrs for detailed accounts of this brutality.

Roman Catholicism is demonic in origin and the largest deception on the earth today. Smokescreens helps the reader navigate the lies of the Pontiff and see it for what it is - a part of Mystery Babylon and the Great Whore. This book also details the compromise of men like Billy Graham who have tried to appease Rome.

As a missionary to Serbia, I know firsthand the results of the Roman Catholic brutality against the Serbs during World War II. This book is also a great resource for the persecution brought against the Orthodox Serbs and how thousands were slaughtered. The wars of Yugoslavia in the 1990's were given fuel for the ethnic hatreds because of what the Roman Catholic priests and nuns did during WWII.

The Roman Catholic Church is the biggest cult on earth today. Get this book, read it and take a stand against Rome while there is still time. Anyone who allies with Rome has always in the end been destroyed at the altar of Paganism.

I just finished the book that I wish I got at amazon, but I found it first at Chick publications. The author Jack Chick has a heart for God and the truth for a long time now and has made available many resources on various pagan like beliefs that cloak themselves in monotheism, such as Catholicism and Islam. Smokescreens is such a much needed book for today just as much as it was in the 80's. The book tied the Vatican with global power grabbing that was very evident recently with the Vatican getting inline with the big lie of man made global warming, that shows the truth is not sacred to the Vatican, I am sure it never was. Knowing the history of the Vatican I can't help but feel bad for the future knowing most will fall for it by joining the ecumenical movement, being fooled into thinking of it as a true belief system in God. Just as revealed in the book I always felt the Vatican was in the Bible: Revelation 17, the only thing that could have been made more clear regarding Revelation 17 is the fact that Rome is the known as the city that sits on seven mountains, that pretty much nails the Vatican coffin shut. Jack seemed to be right on the mark with a lot of history ancient and recent to show the true heart of the Vatican and it's true ambition and the god/gods it follows.

I was a catholic once until I started reading the word of God. I challenge any atholic to read what the Bible has to say then compare it to the catechism. The catechism is ABSOLUTE blasphemy! Do we also keep ignoring the tracks the Vatican has covered up over the centuries. CMON PEOPLE THE ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN IS GETTING ON YOUR WORTHLESS KNEES, ADMITTING YOUR A SINNER AND RECEIVING THE HOLY SPIRIT WHICH SEALS YOU FOR ETERNITY NO MATTER WHAT! Any church that teaches that you have to perform sacraments to be saved is BLASPHEMY! The real church is fellowshipping with other born-agains who walk in obedience with the holy sprit EVERY day. Going to church once a week to receive the Eucharist is NOT going to save you. First communion is NOT going to save you! Mary is not going to save you. It makes me sick when I see people bowing down to statues of Mary breaking Gods law of idol worshipping. Until you absolutely humble yourself ON YOUR FACE in the fear of the lord to accept ONLY Christ (NOT MARY) you will NEVER be saved. Don't matter what title we give ourselves, Mormon, Jehovah witness, Catholic, Protestant or Baptist WE CANNOT be saved from hell until we get on our worthless faces and accept this wonderful gift of eternal life that we don't even deserve. You think Jesus Christ like to see us bickering over denominations? Just do what he says... period! Jesus SAYS: "verily verily I say unto to thee, except a man BE BORN AGAIN, he cannot see the kingdom of God"

I expected this book to be a goldmine of ammunition to attack the Roman Catholic Church with. It is. But, that ammunition is falsehoods, so it is no good.

The part that surprised me most was the it's claim that the Catholic Church started the Holocaust in order to finish what it started. Independent, as well as Jewish sources, would beg to differ. Searching history, you will learn that the Catholic Church saved the lives of about 860,000 Jews. Though Hitler and the Nazis wanted to be on Pius's good side, it was a one-way relationship, because the Pope and church condemned Nazism. For starters, read "The Myth of Hitler's Pope: Pope Pius XII and His Secret War Against Nazi Germany" by a Rabbi, David Dalin.


When he does cite a source, it is usually another biased source. When he doesn't, it is his own speculations and fabrications. Nearly everything contradicts independent sources of history.

That is why this book falls nothing short of bigotry, and it damages the credibility of Chick Publications, the anti-Catholic movement, and anyone using this book as a resource.

A reviewer of this book suggests to use that Chick loves us because he tells the truth (sic) about the RCC. I would invite the reader to question what is meant by "truth".

An example of the errors of the RCC is given in the alleged complicity of the Church, and more personally, Pope Pius XII with the Nazi government and Hitler, even suggesting he should have been sentenced to death at Nuremburg. I would question this asertion. It is a matter of public record that as Cardinal Eugeno Pacelli (prior to his election as Pope and holding the office of Sec. of State in the Vatican) that Pacelli made Former Israeli diplomat and now Orthodox Jewish Rabbi Pinchas Lapide notes that Pius XI "had good reason to make Pacelli the architect of his anti-Nazi policy. Of the forty-four speeches which the Nuncio Pacelli had made on German soil between 1917 and 1929, at least forty contained attacks on Nazism or condemnations of Hitler's doctrines. . . . Pacelli, who never met the Führer, called it `neo-Paganism.'

Hitler sent his envoy, Joachim von Ribbentrop, to meet Pius XIIth, who listened politely as he spelled out the supremacy of the 3rd Reich before the Pope read him a list of Nazi atrocities and sent him away. During the war Pius XIIth issues thousands of false documents to Jewish families in Europe to help them flee Nazi persicution, he opened the doors of the enclosed orders for their sanctuary, including the Vatican. When Hitler re-installed Mussolini in 1943 one of the Nazi commanders demanded of the Jewish community in Rome payment of one hundred pounds of gold within thirty-six hours or three hundred Jews would be taken prisoner. When the Jewish Community Council was only able to gather only seventy pounds of gold, they turned to the Vatican who provided all the gold that was needed to satisfy this demand. This act, along with many others, led to the eventual conversion of the Chief Rabbi (Zolli) to Catholicism.

After Pius XIIth's death in 1948, Golda Meir, a Prime Minister of Israel said of him: We share the grief of the world over the death of His Holiness Pius XII. . . . During the ten years of Nazi terror, when our people passed through the horrors of martyrdom, the Pope raised his voice to condemn the persecutors and to commiserate with their victims"

So what is "truth"? Is it, as Chick would suggest, that the RCC let the Jews suffer and die? or is it as history tells us that he acted to save Jewish lives? Would Chick suggest that the Jews are in league with the Anti-Christ? and if that were the case, why would he be concerned about the actions of the RCC in relation to saving Jews if the Jews, like the RCC were condemened for all eternity? You decide.

This was the first book that I read that preached against the coming apostacy and the antichrist arising from the catholic heirarchy. It is a one of a kind with graphic pics, and heart wrenching stories. How can this tragic history be forgotton? Dont trust the ecumenical movement with your life. It is all part of the coming tribulation, when the anti-chirst will arise through the Catholic church. Eye-opening book that will make you question all in authority. Other reccomended reading: The Two Babylons, by Alexander Hislop, and The Woman Rides a Beast, by David Hunt.

I've read a lot about and a lot against Jack T. Chick, and those who like to bash him and his beliefs are those who have never really dug in deeply enough to take a real look at what Mr. Chick is preaching and teaching. This book that I am reviewing is a good starter and a good book to read, because it gives a basic synopsis of the Roman Catholic "Church's" past atrocities and tragic actions taken against other Bible believers.

I'd say not to take this book alone, but to look at some of the references that are made. Take a look at books by Mr. Dave Hunt, Rev. Charles Chinniquy, Rev. Charles H. Spurgeon, Dr. Alberto Rivera, and some of the sermons and works of Charles Finney, John Wesley, Cotton Mather, John Calvin, Martin Luther, Menno Simons, Ulrich Zwingli, and a host of other reformers and so-called "fundamentalist" preachers of days gone by. Their works, writings, and sermons lend a lot of concrete and factual support to what "Smokescreens" is really saying. Also, take a look at the history of Croatia from 1941-45 and at the life of Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, Reinhard Heydrich, Benito Mussolini, and other Nazi-Facist leaders of Mid-Twentieth Century Europe, and it will also show you that these men were raised Roman Catholic, were supported by Rome when they were in power...and have yet to be denounced, removed, or excommunicated from the membership records of the Roman Catholic Church Records despite their horrible atrocities. Even Hitler has been quoted as saying that his pogrom against the Jews was something he was doing to help 'finish the job' that Rome started.

Again, I say it that anyone who attacks Jack T. Chick truly hasn't taken the time to see what he and his ministry are all about. Mr. Chick preaches and teaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and seeks to show and shed the light of Truth on institutions and Churches that claim Christ, but indeed do not live for him. He doesn't preach hate (amazing that people ascribe a 'hate' label to those who are only trying to tell the truth) but preaches love. What parent doesn't love their children enough to tell them the truth about life? What friend is a true friend that won't tell his or her friend the truth about something as serious as eternal destinations? This is exactly what Mr. Chick is doing with Roman Catholicism, Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, and ahost of other cults and false religions (even Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no-one comes to the Father except through me." [John 14.6], but I guess that idea and those words are hateful in this politically correct and ecumenical day...)

Lastly, My Grandfather was a dyed-in-the-wool Catholic from Ireland, and for years I too thought that those who attacked the Catholic Church were "radical" or "misinformed", but then I did my own digging and studying, and found out that I was the one who was misinformed! I challenge anyone who takes unkind and hateful shots at Jack Chick to do the same! Find out the truth and what Rome is really hiding.

Jack Chick's comics are listed under the Fiction category for good reason, and they should be read as such. Unfortunately, some people take him seriously: those who need someone else to articulate and validate their predjudices. If you're curious about what motivates fundamentalists of all religions, Chick offers a place to start. You can observe, for example, the way that the ultra-simplified fundamentalist world view (i.e., "there are just two kinds of people, the saved and the damned" or "God said it, I believe it, that settles it") exerts a kind of hypnotic force--offering soothing relief from the ambiguities that trouble all of us in everyday life. Wouldn't it be great if life could be clear-cut, and we could easily and automatically tell good from bad or right from wrong? That's what fundamentalism in all religions offers; the price is, however, that somebody has to be the bad guy, and somebody has to be blamed for the things that go wrong in the world. Insert your scapegoat here: the Devil, the Catholic Church, feminists, homosexuals, infidels of all stripes. This would all be fairly run-of-the-mill craziness that could be ignored, were it not for the fact that religiously-based blame of this type usually comes with a license to kill; i.e., God will love you if you kill sinners. See the Crusades, the Inquisition, the murder of doctors who provide abortions, Matthew Sheppard, and on and on. That's why Chick's work isn't funny. It provides readers with a rhetoric that has already led to massive bloodshed throughout history. Read it and weep.

I read this book and some of Jack Chick's comic books many years ago and avidly believed them. But then I found some historical errors, and that led me to dig more deeply and discover what the "Romanists" really did teach and really did do through history.

The difference between what Chick says and what the "romanists" believenand have done is striking. It was chick's very errors that led me into the Catholic Church, the church founded by Christ and currently ably headed by Pope John Paul the 2nd.

This was an incredibly compelling book. When I began, I couldn't put it down. It chronicles the Catholic Church and all its smokescreens, and of interest were the chapters of the Church's dealings with the Nazis during WWII, as well as Billy Graham's cooperation in helping them build a one-world church. Jack Chick hits hard, but his words ring true. Highly recommended!!
