I've seen Jonny Lang 4 times with my kids and really enjoy his "Lie To Me" album and "Wander this World". I've always been hesitant to buy the "Kid Jonny Lang" CD because of his age ... didn't think his voice would be decent, but this CD immediately became my favorite. The beat is really great, every song is good. Sure the kid didn't write the stuff but does a fantastic job of singing and playing the tunes. My 72 year old Mother loves it, 6 year old daughter can't keep still in the car. IT'S AWESOME, TRUST ME :)

Chicago does not mean the blues, Memphis does not mean the blueseven Mississippi Delta does not mean the blues. The blues come from deep inside ones self and anyone, including a white teen guitar player from North Dakota, can play it. The man definitely has it in him and it is definitely comin' out.

Kid?... What Kid?,

Loved this CD from the git go. Great guitar & great voice. I can only imagine how much better he'll get with age. I've heard his other CD's but this one gets my vote. I especially like Louise & "E" Train but that's not to say the others aren't good. These are just my first preferences.

fan from the start,

Being from Minnesota and having traveled all across the state to see him perform, I have adored Jonny Lang for years. For those slamming Smokin', do you realize he hadn't even been playing for a year when he recorded this album. I'd like to see you learn the guitar (at 14), record an album, and book sold out shows across your state all within one year. Sure he's no SRV - give him 20 more years then you can compare.

THIS KID SMOKES,
By Carrie Boyle (Folsom, CA USA) - See all my reviews

Unbelievable, this kid really lays out some hot licks and plays with soul that you normally don't see in players twice his age. Clean pickin' and hardcore electric riffs make this a standout breakthrough album. Don't be bothered by his youth, he sings with raspy aggression and perfect tone. This is a must-buy for any blues afficianado.

I've bought this CD, and I think its Jonny's best. It combines energetic music with soulful titles such as Nice & Warm. I reccomend it to anyone who's interested in contemporary blues. Jonny Lang is a talented individual, and his music is both fun, entertaining and touching.

Saying my peace,

For those reviewers from Chicago who claim sole ownership of the Blues and exclusive rights to an opinion on the subject, keep in mind that Muddy Waters brought the Blues to Chicago from MISSISSIPPI. For those who slam Jonny Lang for being young, would you prefer that the Blues die out with it's aging icons? What difference does it make where someone is from or how old they are? If they've got the chops for it, let them do what they do best. As for this particular cd, I've heard worse debut albums. It's every bit as good as his other two offerings. I highly recommend it!

The beginning,

I have several of Jonny Lang's CD's and enjoy them all but this one is an exciting begining to an even more exciting career. I got this CD when he appeared in my small town at the beginning of his career and saw him very recently too. Although he is more of a polished performer, this music is still blues at it's best...even if he would have been 30, 40 or 50, the soulful sound is there along with the fantastic guitar licks...I love it !!
