5.0 out of 5 stars Great Indie Rock, January 2, 2004
This review is from: Smoking in a Minor (Audio CD)
Being a big fan of Ace-Fu Records, I picked up this album. The first thing I noticed is that it doesn't sound much like the rest of the music in the Ace-Fu catalog.
Officer May is a very heavy band. The lyrics are very edgy and the music rocks harder than most indie bands I have heard. One word of warning, if you aren't into screaming vocals, don't buy this album, there isn't much singing.
My personal favorite song on the album is the title track, Smoking in A Minor. This song starts off with an awesome 3+ minute intro and has a very heavy intense feel all the way through.
This album is for anyone who likes well done, heavey indie rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars The hardest, most honest album I've heard in a long while..., June 12, 2004

Yeah, the comaprisons to Nirvana are obvious. But it's only in their tonality that Officer May sound like that classic grunge troupe. These guys have their own song structure, their own raw energy, their own discordant equilibrium. Their songs are tight, quick, and to the point. Plus, they're willing to make mistakes in the studio and release them for the world to see. Raw, untapped, pure, honest. This is an album that clearly represents a band certain for future greatness. The album has the feeling of a live show about it, and that's where a lot of its strength comes from. Definitely, if you're into harder, cutting edge rock that isn't your typical college blah-blah-blah whining and moaning, if you're into something with sensitivity without self-effacement, if you dig good hardcore power trio noise, sweat, and eardrum damage, then you gotta pick up this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool..., January 3, 2004
This review is from: Smoking in a Minor (Audio CD)
It sounds a lot like Kurt Cobain tripped and fell on his guitar and accidentally said something provocative. Officer May trips on all of their instruments and you can't help but love it all the way through.
