Includes the book Old Time Whittling. Learn the basics while creating an egg, an old boot, a ball-in-the-cage, a wooden chain, a ball-in-a-ball, an arrow through the heart, and more with this easy to follow text. Ten projects with concise instructions, 50+ photos and diagrams. 60 pgs. The kit contains a single bladed pocket knife sharpened & ready for carving use. The larger blade is 2" long and the small blade (not shaped for carving) is 1" long. The handle is 3 1?4" long. The kit includes wood for ball & chain and is marked for carving ball-in-cage (instructions are in book). Also contains a basswood practice block 8" long x 1" x 1". FOR SAFETY WE RECOMMEND A GLOVE AND A THUMB GUARD.

I've really enjoyed working with this kit. Even though other reviewers commented the knife didn't hold an edge, I've found it to hold an edge better than the murphy knife that came with another kit. This is a very fun and relaxing hobby and I would enthusiastically recommend this to anyone.

This item is a great starter set for someone who wants to whittle. The book is very straitforward and offers several types of projects that range from very easy to challenging. The only thing I would suggest is buying a good knife. The one included is o.k. but does not seem to hold an edge well.

Bought it for my wife -- she liked the kit, but not the book. She thought the instructions could have been clearer. And the knife they provided was just a regular Swiss Army knife -- though they did sharpen and prepare it prior to shipping.
