Lost treasures,
By Andrew "Ciao" (Boston MASS) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Smooth Grooves: After Hours Cool Down (Audio CD)
This Smooth Grooves compilation is great for 2 reasons: 1. It's a great mix of 80's R&B, and 2. it includes lost gems you can't find elsewhere.I bought this CD as it was the ONLY place I could find "Heaven In Your Arms" by RJ's Latest Arrival, an uptempo ballad from an obscure R&B group from the 80's that didn't get very good promotion. A pleasant surprise was the 12-inch mix of "I Can't Go For That" by Hall & Oates. Not the version that you hear on pop stations or the regular CDs, but the funky club version that 'those in the know' were listening to back in the early 80's.

Late-night '80s R&B at its best.,

After the rise and fall of the Disco era urban R&B took on a new level of class and sophistication. Most of the songs featured here ("Make It Last Forever", "Love Zone", "Heaven In Your Arms", "Change Of Heart", "Human") were mid-tempo R&B tracks that got considerable exposure on urban contemporary radio but failed to reach the Pop charts. As is the cas with the "Smooth Grooves: After Hours" CD this is a compilation of late-night '80s Soul at its finest.
