I am in the lengthy process of going through another warranty/service requests.

As it is, Smooth Fitness is really only adding insult to robbery.

Before: I googled for "Smooth treadmill 8.35 reviews" before deciding to buy the Smooth treadmill. I wish I had paid more attention to Amazon reviews.

After: I first used it for 1 to 3 times/week, 20-30 minutes of walking and slow jogging (< 5.0 mph). After a month, the belt had an overheat smell. I thought the room was warm so put a fan next to the motor. The treadmill stopped functioning a few days later. I called and asked for money back (RMA number) since it was still under the refund guarantee. To my surprise, I was told I MUST pay the freight to send it back. Disappointed in finding a freight company for residentials, I had no choice but to accept Smooth's service option. The service guy showed up two weeks later saying I needed a new lower board. Another month for the parts to arrive and be installed.

Current: the belt is slipping and jerking. Once in a while, it stops running showing an error. I can no longer use it, too tired to wait on the phone for Smooth service. They never return my emails btw. Smooth 8.35 is a piece of junk!

This is a "quiet/smooth" treadmill - only if you plan to use it once a month. My Smooth 8.35 treadmill was unoperational (speed errors, overheated smell) after two months of usage. I sent several emails, never got a single response! I called and Smooth service department LOVE to put you on hold for at least 30-45 minutes. My request for a replacement was denied right away. The service guy installed a new controll board last month. The treadmill has begun to show speed errors again since last week. I am in the lengthy process of going through another warranty/service requests. I paid $1600.00 for a brand new equipment and got a lemon instead. Really disappointed! Do not believe the 5-star reviews unless you only intend to use the treadmill once a month.

I have used other treadmills but this is the first that I have owned. I had a knee injury a little over a year ago and jogging on the road was killing me. After about a month of researching treadmills I narrowed it down to a few. I wanted one that would last. Nordictrack has allot of really nice bells and wistles but they use plastic in places I thought steel would be better. Nautilus and Schwinn are both nice but lack the warranty I wanted. The top 2 were the Sole F85 and the Smooth 8.35. Smooth won by price and features and it's the only treadmill that I could'nt find a bad review for anywhere.

Delivery was great and free. I wasn't able to be home during the times that the frieght company Ceva would be in the area. They were based almost 60 miles from me. So they worked with Amazon to change delivery it to my work. I have a truck so I loaded it in the back with a fork lift. Got home slid it out of the truck, on to a dolly and got it inside. All of this I did by myself. THIS IS NOT RECOMENDED! Two people are needed, but it is possible to recieve and put this together by yourself. The box is real heavy on one end where the motor is and lighter on the other. I am 6'2, pretty stout and I used my head. You will want to get this into the room you want it in because once it's all together it will not fit through a door way.

It come's with all the tools you need to put it together but it is easier to use a phillips screw driver and a ratchet with the correct allen bit in some area's. As always with mail order do what you can to save the box and packaging just in case something goes wrong and you need to send it back. This did not happen in my case but I find it a safe practice. Assembly was easy.

Smooth Fitness doesn't honor warranties...their own warranties. They apparantly assume that you won't be using the piece of equimpment you purchase and would therefore never experience a failure on the piece of junk they sell you. IF you get them on the phone, they will point out how rude you are for challenging their claims and lies. You are better off buying from the dollar store, at least then you KNOW you are buying junk!

This is the 3rd treadmill I have owned. The others were Nordic Track and Sole. All were good machines. I purchased this from Smooth Fitness on-line. After 4 months of use I find it as good as the previous 2 excellent machines. I use it an hour a day 6 days a week. As a senior I use it mainly for walking although I sometimes get a wild hair and do a little jogging. The service I got from Smooth was excellent. The machine arrived and was set up inside my home in 10 days. I was told to keep the box until the warranty expired in case I ever needed to send it back. The man who set up the machine is also the one I should call if repairs are ever needed and is only 50 miles away. All the features were explained to my wife and I.
The thing that many seniors will appreciate about the machine is its long handles. Purest say you are not suppose to walk or run using them but it is nice to know they are there. They really help my wife who has arthritis in her knees. Besides some exercise is better than none at all. The machine is quiet. I do not use the speakers as I listen to music from another music source. The machine is solid and does not wobble or shake. The deck is long which is great for those over 6 feet tall.
The one drawback that this machine has is the same one I encountered with my other machines. That is the heart rate monitor. The handle sensors are not consistent and you can not get a reading from the chest monitor. This has been a problem I have encountered with every exercise machine I have owned the last 27 years. I solved the problem long ago by buying a Polar Heart rate monitor wrist watch.
I have no trouble recommending this product or this company.
