Smooth Sailin',

When Smooth Sailin" was originally released, CDs weren't available. This CD sounds better than the original release. This is a classic country album, probably the best that TG Sheppard released.

Following the huge success of T G Sheppard's previous album, this one followed a similar style, filled as it is with some wonderful love songs, three of which were country chart hits. Surprisingly, the title track stalled at number six but the other two (Do you wanna go to heaven?, I feel like loving you again) went all the way to number one, with Do you wanna go to heaven? being my favorite T G Sheppard song. One of the other tracks (Don't touch me) is a cover of a country standard, which originally gave Jeannie Seely her biggest hit and has been covered by many country singers since then. T G Sheppard rarely covered old classics but this song so obviously suited him that I'm not surprised that he chose to record it. (A few years later, he covered the pop classic, Without you, written and originally recorded by Badfinger but a worldwide hit for Harry Nilsson; T G's version made the country top ten but didn`t go as high as most of his singles.) With six other great songs (If I never saw the light of day again, I could never dream the way you feel, How far your love goes, My mind's already home, Do it again, Let the little bird fly), some of which sound good enough to have been singles, this is another top-quality album from T G Sheppard.
