More About the Author

Karen Groves -- researcher, writer and teacher specializing in health issues like cancer and diabetes, natural products, superfoods, homeopathic remedies and supplements.

When asked recently why she is working on the Superfoods Series of books, Karen said, "Unfortunately, most of our food supply is contaminated with pesticides, hormones, antibiotics and other dangerous substances, not to mention Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) foods that are invading our food supply. As a result, we need to be careful with what we put in our bodies. For better health, we should be eating organic, natural, grass fed or wild caught foods - Superfoods. So this series of Superfood books is my effort to help people make better choices for themselves and for their families."

Since 1990, Karen has worked off and on with various natural products and supplements, including products specifically formulated for cancer patients and diabetics.

As a result of her research, she has made major changes in her own diet by adding more superfoods. As a result, she is experiencing positive changes to her own health. So you might say that Karen 'practices what she preaches.'

In 1980 Karen nearly died, and that is when she was introduced to homeopathic remedies. They saved her life, and since then she has done nothing but natural medicine (homeopathic remedies, Bach flower remedies, essential oils, energy work, chiropractic treatments, massage and diet). This was quite a change for the daughter of a General Surgeon and a nurse.

Karen has written articles for sites such as Ezine.com, and for her own web sites dealing with stress management, at BustingStress.com, and sleep, at GoodSleepHabits.com. This past year, she has written some 100 articles on various topics: nutrition, gout, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, breast cancer, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, fulvic acid, panic attacks, sleep habits and stress management, among others. She has also written 21 articles on muscle testing and 27 articles on diabetes. Her writings include e-books on stress management, hypothyroidism, Death to the Honeybees (ghostwritten), and How to Deal with Sleep Problems.

Karen is an accredited authority article writer for ReversingDiabetesNaturally.co. Ten of her articles are on this site, and she has written two sales letters, two video sales letters and an email campaign for them as well.

I'm a big fan of smoothies and I'm always on the lookout for new ones to try. However this is the first smoothie book that I've come across that focuses on drinking smoothies in order to help alleviate specific ailments. These include smoothies to aid with dementia, arthritis and depression, just to name a few. The author brings a lifetime of using natural products and "superfoods" to cure various ailments and her passion shines through in this work. In addition to this the smoothies themselves are quite good. I suggest you take a look using the "look inside feature" to see the various issues that her smoothies may help with. If you see one that afflicts you it might not be a bad idea to pick up this book. At worst you'll have a book filled with delicious smoothie recipes. At best though you may find some relief from any number of chronic conditions that many of us suffer in the modern world. Recommended.

I was given a copy of this book with a request for a review. Although this is certainly a good book filled with information which should encourage people to think, I am not really qualified to comment on several aspects of this book. My training and experience is in biology, but not in medicine.
I gave this book 5 stars because of the excellent smoothies recipes and the parts of the information I know enough about to comment on.
A healthy diet is an important part of staying healthy, and as Karen Groves says in this book, exercise is also important. I know many people with type 2 diabetes and a few of these have been able 'cure' the diabetes with diet and exercise, but there are others who have failed to do this.
It worries me that people who do not understand what they are doing go onto extreme diets of many types.
In the last paragraph of the book there is a medical disclaimer which basically tells us 'to seek medical advice before embarking upon or changing a course of medication or fitness program or before making extreme changes in their lifestyle.' And 'to seek services of competent professionals if they are having serious medical, mental or emotional problems.' This sounds like good advice.

I love the way the author starts the book with the idea that eating healthy doesn't have to be complicated. A lot of people are stumped by the idea of completely changing their diet, so they don't. Thus the author suggests healthy and simple smoothies as ways to eat healthy without a lot of fuss. The book is filled with smoothie recipes dedicated to specific health conditions, from arthritis to loss of mental function. There is a chapter for each health condition, and each chapter contains useful information about that condition. The recipes are easy to make, and some are surprising. I did not know, for instance, that peanut butter was a good additive for a smoothie, but I tried it anyway. Guess what? Tasty. The back of the book also has many resources including disease statistics, resources for learning more, and supplement suggetions for each health conditions. A wealth of knowledge in an easy-to-read format.

Excellent resource on the nutrients needed to prevent or alleviate symptoms of common conditions. I found it helpful that each section is broken down by the specific medical condition. Each section provides informative on the condition, nutrition needs, as well as smoothie recipes to help with the specific ailment. There were numerous references used so we can find out more information, if needed. Aside from being informative, it was entertaining with fun recipes and catchy titles. I highly recommend this resource.

I liked the section of superfoods in each health issue, the web sites, the other resources . I was a little concerned that not every smoothie contained protein, to keep the blood sugar stable. I am postmenopausal, and have insulin resistance. I liked the ones with coconut milk or almond milk base. I would add those or China seeds to the only fruit based smoothies.

I really enjoyed this book, 2014 I'm changing my eating habits. I bought a couple of books so I can learn how to make a heathy smoothie specifically to help boost my immune system, I was diagnosed with cancer in 2011and 2012 I also had chemo and the chemo drugs on my immune system left me tired, sluggish and I'm a pre diabetic so I decided to give smoothies a try. Goes into great detail with methods and preparation. Good list of natural cures for alzheimers, arthritis, dementia and such. For men and women hoping to prevent such diseases, this would be an ideal book to read and follow. Also includes plenty of simple recipes and variants. I personally liked the Cancer section the best, as it IS the most threatening disease in the book and the author addresses solutions quite well. Overall, a handy guide to know which foods to use to avoid diseases.
