Amazon.com Product Description

Smuggler's Run 2: Hostile Territory thrusts the player into the position of working for an elite band of smugglers delivering contraband through the most volatile war zones on earth. The game includes new time-sensitive missions, including helicopter and plane drops, chases, convoy drops, and distinctive two-player modes. Eight new crime-driven smuggling gangs and the authorities all work feverishly to protect their turf by any means necessary. New offensive countermeasures, including smoke screens, oil slicks, nitro boosts, and exploding kegs, will aid in your escape.

The game features huge environments, with two immense new international maps--Afghanistan and Vietnam--complete with palatial temples, ancient ruins, prosperous fishing towns, and small bombed-out villages. The fully interactive environments are full of hazards such as minefields, crossfire, and avalanches. The incredible vistas are also fully interactive: if you can see it, you can drive to it. Pick a point miles away on the horizon and drive there--if you can make it across the hostile territory.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the most "exciting" games I have ever played, January 15, 2002

This review is from: Smuggler's Run 2 (Video Game)
My buddy and I just randomly rented this game about a week ago and have done nothing but play it since. While I haven't played Crazy Taxi or Grand Theft Auto yet (which I hear is unreal), I found this game to be very unique, yet very simple with its basic objective being similar to that of "capture the flag".

Smuggler's Run 2 has many different levels of play. The first and foremost is the missions. They range from chasing someone down and capturing them (with your choice of vehicles that you unlock by beating missions), capturing the "contraband" and bringing it back to your base, escaping hostile territory, outrunning pursuers, leading pursuers into a trap, etc. While the missions will frustrate the hell out of you with their level of difficulty, you can't stop playing them. You'll find yourself constantly playing and playing to unlock new vehicles, weapons and secondary options for those vehicles (mines, smoke screens, dropping oil slicks, speed boosts, etc.)

If the missions start to drive you insane, you can go for a "joyride" (actually a play option in the game). Basically you drive around in the HUUUGE terrains of the game without dealing with cops or the army pursuing you. I'm not kidding when I say these terrains are huge. They are beautifully designed with trees, shrubs, thick vegetation, snow, mountains, trains and train tracks, roads with driving cars, people and cows (which you can run over and hear them mooing or yelling), lakes, oceans, rocks, houses, tunnels, etc. It truly is amazing to play this game.

Perhaps the most enjoyable mode of this game is the battle mode. Grab one of your friends and go head to head with them in one of 3 different "capture the flag" games in a choice of 18 enormous levels. This battle mode is unbelievably addictive. On some of the games you can have up to 3 other vehicles on your team who help you "capture" or "defend" the flag (contraband). I can't tell you how many hours I have spent playing battle mode with friends.

I only have two gripes about this game. The first, and most annoying, is the general "physics" of the game. Sometimes I will find myself losing control of the vehicles because they hit something that sends them bouncing either in the wrong direction that it should, or flying an unrealistically far distance. It's kind of hard to explain what I mean, but I guess the point I'm trying to make is that sometimes things happen that never would if even closely following general laws of physics. My second complaint is that the music is HORRIBLE. In fact, when my friends and I play battle mode we usually turn down the volume and set up an mp3 play list instead.

All in all this game is absolutely awesome. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys first person shooters, racing games, or in general games with constant in-your-face action and great challenges that will keep you playing for weeks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smugglers Run 2 is a lot of fun as well as challenging!, February 22, 2002

This review is from: Smuggler's Run 2 (Video Game)
After renting Smugglers Run: Hostile territory the other night, and hours of gameplay, Ive found this game to be pretty high up there in the list of fun PS2 games. It was at first quite easy, with extremely simple controls and beginner missions. After a couple of hours of solid game play though, and after passing the first seven or so missions, I realized this game isn't so easy after all, though it is still a great game?

What makes this game so great?

The answer to this question is a combination of the simplicity of the controlls, the awesome soundtrack, and the challenging missions. The controls are directional, meaning you dont have to worry about using every single button on your controller, as you do with some games. The music rocks, because its not typical bands playing the same songs over and over again, instead, its a series of more electronically produced music, with its intensity and dramatic tone matching that of whatever mission you're playing. The missions themselves get increasingly challenging, I personally have not yet passed the ninth mission (I plan on doing so tonight though!)

So, if you're up for a few hours of a fun, a challenging game, and want to try your hand as a smuggler of contraband, being chased by border-police as well as the army, fighting battles with other smuggling groups and thieves, grab up a copy of Smugglers Run: Hostile Territory, and have some fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars No Boundries To This Game, January 27, 2002

This game is great! It is easy to play for anybody. I like that fact a lot because I have a hard time with PS2. This game has no boundries. So you can drag as many enimies away from their base. The vehiciles are awsome and can reah speads over a hundred. The music in the backround is great. The main objective is to take billions of money from other smugglers and bring it back to your base. I highly recomend this game! If you don't know what to ask for for Christmas ask this game over every other game!
