4.0 out of 5 stars smurfs
Hello, I purchased this game for young children and found that it was easy to understand, and non violent(on the most part). My 5 year old sat for hours and loved it. She found that she could do the levels by herself which made her very happy. Most games are hard for the little ones of the home, but this one is a + for the younger children. My older kids are still...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun for little children and older Smurf lovers.
Three apples high. This game is too easy to be called a "good game," but as someone who loves Smurfs it was decently entertaining. In the cut scenes, which can also be played in French and Spanish, the Smurfs have British accents rather than the familiar Hanna-Barbarra voices (sort of a dissapointment). For a non-violent, but exciting game I would...

My older kids are still playing it too and think it is okay. Very cute pictures. Would recommend for the smaller playstation users.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the other guy/girl who is confused..., November 27, 2001

Well, this game is good; just buy it. For the fella who could not pass the "smurf-eating" flower at Level One: Just jump ON (not over!) the flower's head to kill it (timing and rythm is critical to do it successfully).

Also, if one turns on the game but do not hit "start", one can see the demo mode of the game, which reveals quite a bit of how to play the game.

Don't listen to folks who might have told you this is a hard game. From what I have seen: Easy level is too easy for a 4-year old kid; Hard level is also winnable to him, who has managed to finish about > 50% of the game by himself (after watching a grown-up play).

Just buy the game, you won't regret.

Good luck & have fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this game. Buy this game. Buy this game NOW!, February 3, 2001
This review is from: The Smurfs (Video Game)
This game belongs to the top 5% of all arcade/adventure games for kids, in my humble opinion.

Based on the same storylines in the famous comic series about the smurfs, this game involved a smurf who went on a journey from his village, day and night, across the mountains, down the valleys, into the caves, under the water, fighting snakes, monsters, etc..., to save his fellow smurfs, and ultimately the baby smurf. His final goal, of course, is to defeat Gargamel, his wicked opponent.

No violence. To beat your "obstacles", just jump on/over them (no shooting or hitting involved). Players learn to estimate the distances to jump across obstacles, which is probably a good thing for kids who play the game. BEAUTIFUL 3-D graphics and animation, great game plan, great playability, great music, and more.

In brief, "FIVE-STAR!". Strongly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a pretty good game, April 22, 2003

The "It's a Piece of Cake" game is soooo easy. There are lots of different levels and is really more about exploration than game skill. That's what's great about it for kids...they will love it and can actually play it. The "It's No Picnic" game also has lots of levels and was really more challenging than I expected. It took me quite a while to master the jumping and stuff. You can only use the directional buttons on the controler to move Hefty, and it takes a while to get the hang of it. I was very surprised and it was more difficult than I expected. Alot of times it just feels like the Smurf is NOT doing what you commanded it to, but precision and learning the timing of Hefty's movements is key to mastering this game. Practice makes perfect in this game. Game play was quite fun, but the end where you beat Gargamel was not as challenging as I expected compared to the rest of the game. The end was a bit disappointing. My 5 yr old can play the first two levels of "It's No Picnic", so even the harder portions of the game are good for kids as well as adults. I think you'll be happy with this game. It's not the greatest, but it's definitely not the worst. It has some great things to offer.

The "It's a Piece of Cake" level is was too easy, I think it might be for toddlers and in the "It's No Picnic" level I can't get past the first level because I can't find out how to get past the huge plant. When I try to jump over him he eats me. Rent this game before buying it and if you get past the plant can ya tell me how?
