I saw these in a local bookstore and picked them up-- the magnetic flap is unobtrusive and handy, and the books are just beautiful.

For those thinking this is "old leather" take a look at the price and think again. You'd pay easily 5 times this for real leather. If you're looking for an inexpensive, charmingly rustic looking journal that will take a bit of a beating and still look good, try this one out.

If you are expecting real leather for [this money] (think about it) find something else. But if you're looking for an economical journal that looks great, try this. For a cardstock journal this is one of the best I've seen. It looks great. A flap from the back folds around to attach to the front cover to protect it. For the price this is an excellent value. The pages are lightly ruled as most journals.

A lot of people will order this thinking they can get a leather bound journal for such a cheap price and will be very disappointed. But this is a great journal! The hard cover flap is excellent and very protective. The paper quality is very good and what never seems to get mentioned is the flap pocket on the inside of the back which is great for slipping in those little pieces of "whatevers" you want to keep close at hand. The exterior, while not leather is handsome and more than you should expect at this price.

This is a great journal. The size is big enough for pasting items in, and for writing a good amount on each page. Some journals are just too tiny to complete a thought on a page! After all the leather/not-leather controversy I read, I was pleasantly surprised when this journal came in. The cover is even nicer in person than in the photo. The Pocket at the back is generous, and I love the magnetic flap closure. I've already wet-transferred some ink jet prints in and the pages rebound nicely from the semi-wet transfer process. All in all I am very happy with it. The price is really good for what you get.

I recently bought this journal for my girlfriend. Even though it is not real leather, it is a great little journal. The paper is of very high quality. The cover is kept closed by a magnet which is really neat. The pouch to put little momentoes is also a very nice addition.

Well, I didn't expect a leather bound journal for $10 and neither should any reasonable person. I use this book to document conversations I have with employees at work. The lines are wide enough for handwriting, but light enough to not distract from the writing. It is small emough to be dicrete, but large enough to easily hold the information I need. It has a flap with a magnet inside which gives it a rich feel. I bought one to see if it would serve my purpose. I just bought 4 more to make sure I don't have to do this search again for awhile.

I read some reviews before buying this journal. I agreed with the people who said that if you thought you were gonna get real leather for this price you were crazy. I ordered it anyway and my expectations were pretty low. I was so pleasantly surprised when this journal came in the mail!! It really is a pretty book and does look just like leather. I also think that the people who couldn't find the pocket in the back just didn't look. It has a great pocket for pictures, concert tickets, whatever. I also really like the ribbon attached to keep your place. If you are looking for a journal and don't want to pay too much this is definitely the book for you. I know I am extremely happy with it.

The description says "Smythe Sewn Faux Old Leather Wraps, Handtooled, Lined." Clearly stating that it is not real leather. The word "faux" means fake. For those of you grumbling about it not being real leather, you should look up words you don't understand. I find this journal to be very nice and I like the price. By the way, there is another indicator that it's not real leather. Real leather would cost a lot more.

I can't pass up on the opportunity to sing the praises of PaperBlanks journals. I have not found a more beautiful, practical, or durable journal out there for the low price. With the classic old leather look and the sturdy, crisp paper, these journals look and feel like they should cost much more than they do. The magnetic closure and the inside pouch are nice extras. I love my journal! Every time I open it I feel like I am writing words that will be treasured for generations to come. I imagine a future decendant of mine reading this journal 100 years from now and they are taking a step back in time to pay a visit to me. They will probably think I was a rich man to be able to afford such a beautiful journal. I first started keeping a journal when we learned that we were pregnant with our son. So far in the past 2 & a half years I have filled 2 PaperBlanks journals and I am going to buy a third. My hope is that I will be able to present my children with an entire collection of these journals to keep and cherish. As for the "Faux Leather" complaints... All I can say is, learn a little French. It means fake. Honestly, you can't expect real leather for this price. So study your French and read the reviews before you purchase these journals. Please don't give this journal a poor rating because of your own ignorance. If you want a genuine leather journal be willing to pay the $35+ for one. These journals deserve 6 stars!!!

The description of this book sounded too good to be true! " Old Leather Wraped Hand-tooled". These journals are simple bound notebooks with a cover simply printed on paper/vinyl to look like leather very orange). Tag on book reads "Featuring old leather appeal without the leather.."!

Not worth the money!
