Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The return of Los Angeles-based PI Regan Reilly, after her debut in Decked , is amusing but lightweight fare--more confection than main course. In Miami for a friend's wedding, Regan acquires a new friend in the bride's uncle, Richie Blossom, who has invented "run-proof, snag-proof" pantyhose. If Richie can sell his patent to a manufacturer, he'll have the funds to buy the retirement home where he and his friends live. A year earlier, the residents acquired an option on the home from Dolly Twiggs before she died under suspicious circumstances; now the option is about to expire, and if Richie's endeavor fails, the extremely valuable property goes on the open market. Meanwhile Ruth Craddock of Calla-Lilly Hosiery, who has her hands on a pair of the prototype pantyhose, realizes that Richie's invention could put her out of business. When an aggressive driver nearly mows Richie down, Regan appoints herself his protector and determines to learn more about what happened to Dolly. Although Regan gets the job done and is generally pleasant company, her gripes about such trivial matters such as hotel-room hangers and health-food aficionados occasionally make her seem a whiny sort of lass. From Library Journal

Clark, daughter of suspense writer Mary Higgins Clark, narrates this audiobook that features the second appearance of her detective, Regan Reilly. Reilly, visiting Miami for a friend's wedding, helps out her friend's uncle Richie Blossom, who has invented a new type of pantyhose that is durable beyond belief. The race is on to sell the rights to Blossom's hosiery in time to purchase the retirement home where he and his friends live. Soon, the lives of both Blossom and Reilly are threatened, as the inventor attempts to sell his creation to manufacturers at a pantyhose convention. This mystery is light and breezy, and the story moves along briskly as various characters maneuver to attain their goals. Clark has a fine talent for giving many of the characters distinctive voices, but her performance is marred in places by distracting pauses that break the flow of the narration. Recommended for popular fiction collections.

2.0 out of 5 stars very fast light read, August 18, 2004

If you need to kill some time in a waiting room, I recommend this light reading. The book reads quickly , I like the wriing style, and overall the story is "fun"... as fun as senior citizens watching Matlock daily in the nursing home. There is no real violence so it is very sedate and you'll be able to go to sleep without checking under the bed. The suspense really revolves around the sale of the pantyhose rather than the characters being killed. Overall, if you need to forget your troubles, dive into this book which requires minimal brain activity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Cozy, September 4, 1999

I think Carol Higgins Clark's work has been unfairly compared to her mothers'. Mary Higgins Clark's novels are suspenseful and heart stopping. The creme de le creme of the genre. Her daughter's books are cozies - great to relax on the couch in front of a fire with a nice cup of tea. Snagged had the right mix of mystery AND humor (those indestructable pantyhose are a hoot!). I think she proves that though she may not be her mother, she is a top notch writer.

1.0 out of 5 stars In a word - INSULTING, September 6, 2005
This book is insulting to readers of average to above-average intelligence.

To say it is difficult to get published is one of the understatements of the century. It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get published these days. Average writers can forget it. Good writers, probably not. Great writers, maybe... just maybe, if your agent and the publisher are in a good mood.

Therefore, you don't see much drivel making it to print anymore. I don't even know if this book is good enough to be called drivel. The immature writing is below sub-par and the characters are so flimsy that they don't even qualify as "cardboard". Even the basic premise of the book is so thin, it should never even have been made into a short story.

But I guess, when your mother is one of the most exhaulted mystery writers of all time, you're allowed to vomit text on to a page and expect to get it printed. Must be nice.
