4.0 out of 5 stars This story has a very calming, poetic lilt to it and the art work is quite beautiful and charming!, June 6, 2009
This review is from: Snail's Good Night (Holiday House Reader - Level 2) (Hardcover)
Snail has just woken up, but the moon is out and many of his friends are getting ready to go to bed and he wants to "go and wish them good night." Snails are slow, slow, slow creatures and it took him a long time to reach Bunny's den. Naturally he was cuddled up and fast asleep when Snail called out to her, but her eyes popped wide open when he heard him. Next he was off to visit Mouse. "I will hurry to Mouse."

"Snail slides
slowly,
slowly,
slowly
under a twig."

When Snail called out to say good night to Mouse he appeared to be half asleep and was rubbing his eyes. He said, "Snail! You woke me up." Next he had to go to visit Sparrow. Snail was such a slow creature that by the time he got to Sparrow it was the sky was blue and the moon was gone. When he wished Sparrow a good night, it wasn't night anymore . . . it was morning!

This story has a very calming, poetic lilt to it and the art work is quite beautiful and charming. This is a Level 1 (reading level: 1.9) book, but this would better serve as a bedtime read aloud book for the younger child as it is more of a soothing read than an action one.
