poems of love, sorrow and laughter,
By desert hounsi (southwest) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Snake In Her Mouth: Poems 1974-96 (Paperback)
I first read nila northsun's poetry in an anthology of Native American literature and her work just knocked me out! Since then, I'd been trying to get a copy of one of her books, and finally this edition came out. It includes some of the poems that I loved like "up and out" and "barrel-racer cowboy-chaser." northsun's poetry is accessible, jazzy, moving and real. I used this book in a undergraduate literature class, and it was by far the favorite book of the semester. Reading it is like listening to stories told by your best girlfriend, tales of love, sorrow and laughter. Great!
