Book Description

May 1, 1999
Juno is voluptuous, hedonistic, and funny. On her thirtieth birthday, she decides to have a wild one-night-stand to mark the occasion. But seducing her new flatmate before he's had a chance to unpack his belongings is not a wise move. Just over from New York, Jay Mulligan is intense, mysterious and, as Juno joyously discovers, far better than breakfast in bed. It's only when they both get out of that bed on the wrong side three days later that the problems start.

'Walker's style is up-beat and wisecracking, whatever the emotional weather' -- The Express on Sunday 'Hate to love via a one-night stand, misunderstandings and a barrel load of one-liners. You'll love every minute of this book' -- Company 'Fiona Walker does it again with her latest serving of whimsical banter and feisty characters. ... Fast, furious and fruity' -- 19 'A good choice for a light and frothy summer beach read' -- Miss London 'Veritable romps through the light hearted side of life.' -- GQ Magazine 'Think Jilly Cooper but younger, trendier and much better ... a very funny and entertaining book' -- Minx the funniest, most enjoyable novel I have read all year. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Fairy Tale, January 19, 2002
This review is from: Snap Happy (Paperback)
The story started out slowly, and with enough bad puns that I was starting to worry it would be like Wendy Holden's dreadful book "Bad Heir Day." But then suddenly, I became immersed in this incredibly romantic story.

Juno, the protaganist, is a curvy amateur comic who on her 30th birthday, in a fit of despair over her love life, seduces her gorgeous new flat-mate, Jay. Jay is moody and secretive, and he and Juno are as explosive together out of bed as they are in it. Everything they say to one another is misunderstood, and although both are pining away for the other, they are so wrenched apart by their misunderstandings, it doesn't seem as though they will ever be able to get it together. This has that wonderful quality that only the best romantic yarns have -- so many ups and downs, that you find yourself reading late into the night, hoping that the heroine and her hero will somehow against all odds find their way back to each other's arms.

A lovely, romantic book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy!, March 13, 2000
By
Carrie-Deanne (Worcester, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Snap Happy (Paperback)
While in Heathrow airport feeling very very worried about my upcoming flight to the UAE, I picked up a brightly coloured book from the shelf of one of the many stores. I read the back and decided to buy it needing something to keep my fears in check on my journey. This was the most refreshing, heartwarming and throughly yummy book that I had read in ages. It kept me from worrying about the flight as I got absorbed in to this funny book with a very strong feel good factor. I finished it within the time I was on the plane and was disappointed that there was not more to read! It's so nice to see the heroine of the story not being absolutly perfect for once. Seeing her downfalls as well as her good points made you like Juno even more. Fiona Walker does a very good job of making this character lovable and you can't help but like her even though she messes things up sometimes! I have read this book three times since and will probably read it again! I have lent it to friends who all say that they loved this book. The only reason I came across this review part was because I was looking to buy more Fiona Walker books! Incase she ever reads this I would like to say - Fiona Walker I think your cool!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tale - not her best, though., February 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Snap Happy (Paperback)
Snap Happy is more than the usual Chit Lit - grittier, more unsettling - but ultimately a happy experience. I've read three of Walker's books and she specializes in heroines that are less than perfect - full of faults. But they are also funny, warm, more like real people. Yes, she always incorporates a quite bit of fantasy - Juno has a stagnate day job and struggles to make it as a stand up comic. But, wait! Mum and Dad are famous in their own right, brother's girl friend is a fast and loose lingerie designer (but secretly a down-to-earth gal!) and there's quite an assortment of weirdos. I read the UK edition, so I'm not sure what changes they may have made in the US edition. In the version that I read, I found Jay to be a bit overdone (accent and diction-wise), but I'm sure that's how New Yorkers appear to the English. But, the story of Juno and Jay will hook you - you understand perfectly how they cross wires and you keep rooting for them to uncross them. I also love the fact that he loves the way she looks (extra lbs and all.) Walker does tend to go off the deep end with corny humor (and if you're not familiar with the song, "Christmas on the Streets of New York", the extended comedy stint at the end may not make sense to you). Walker has written a few other novels - French Relations and Well Groomed are the "pair" (one follows the others, same characters) that I started with. I prefer them to Snap Happy, but I'd still recommend Snap Happy as a modern tale worth reading.
