5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Fairy Tale
The story started out slowly, and with enough bad puns that I was starting to worry it would be like Wendy Holden's dreadful book "Bad Heir Day." But then suddenly, I became immersed in this incredibly romantic story.

1.0 out of 5 stars Snap Happy
I tried to read this book, but found it so not funny, lacking in an interesting plot and I couldn't identify or even like any of the characters. I forced myself to continue reading as I hate to leave a book unread, and after taking a while to get into it in the hope that it would get better, I couldn't continue reading and gave up. There was no hook in the beginning...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Fairy Tale, January 19, 2002
This review is from: Snap Happy (Paperback)
The story started out slowly, and with enough bad puns that I was starting to worry it would be like Wendy Holden's dreadful book "Bad Heir Day." But then suddenly, I became immersed in this incredibly romantic story.

Juno, the protaganist, is a curvy amateur comic who on her 30th birthday, in a fit of despair over her love life, seduces her gorgeous new flat-mate, Jay. Jay is moody and secretive, and he and Juno are as explosive together out of bed as they are in it. Everything they say to one another is misunderstood, and although both are pining away for the other, they are so wrenched apart by their misunderstandings, it doesn't seem as though they will ever be able to get it together. This has that wonderful quality that only the best romantic yarns have -- so many ups and downs, that you find yourself reading late into the night, hoping that the heroine and her hero will somehow against all odds find their way back to each other's arms.

A lovely, romantic book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy!, March 13, 2000

Carrie-Deanne (Worcester, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Snap Happy (Paperback)
While in Heathrow airport feeling very very worried about my upcoming flight to the UAE, I picked up a brightly coloured book from the shelf of one of the many stores. I read the back and decided to buy it needing something to keep my fears in check on my journey. This was the most refreshing, heartwarming and throughly yummy book that I had read in ages. It kept me from worrying about the flight as I got absorbed in to this funny book with a very strong feel good factor. I finished it within the time I was on the plane and was disappointed that there was not more to read! It's so nice to see the heroine of the story not being absolutly perfect for once. Seeing her downfalls as well as her good points made you like Juno even more. Fiona Walker does a very good job of making this character lovable and you can't help but like her even though she messes things up sometimes! I have read this book three times since and will probably read it again! I have lent it to friends who all say that they loved this book. The only reason I came across this review part was because I was looking to buy more Fiona Walker books! Incase she ever reads this I would like to say - Fiona Walker I think your cool!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tale - not her best, though., February 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Snap Happy (Paperback)
Snap Happy is more than the usual Chit Lit - grittier, more unsettling - but ultimately a happy experience. I've read three of Walker's books and she specializes in heroines that are less than perfect - full of faults. But they are also funny, warm, more like real people. Yes, she always incorporates a quite bit of fantasy - Juno has a stagnate day job and struggles to make it as a stand up comic. But, wait! Mum and Dad are famous in their own right, brother's girl friend is a fast and loose lingerie designer (but secretly a down-to-earth gal!) and there's quite an assortment of weirdos. I read the UK edition, so I'm not sure what changes they may have made in the US edition. In the version that I read, I found Jay to be a bit overdone (accent and diction-wise), but I'm sure that's how New Yorkers appear to the English. But, the story of Juno and Jay will hook you - you understand perfectly how they cross wires and you keep rooting for them to uncross them. I also love the fact that he loves the way she looks (extra lbs and all.) Walker does tend to go off the deep end with corny humor (and if you're not familiar with the song, "Christmas on the Streets of New York", the extended comedy stint at the end may not make sense to you). Walker has written a few other novels - French Relations and Well Groomed are the "pair" (one follows the others, same characters) that I started with. I prefer them to Snap Happy, but I'd still recommend Snap Happy as a modern tale worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Funny, October 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Snap Happy (Paperback)
'Snap Happy' will make you want to laugh out loud when you read it.. Juno first meets her new flatmate Jay, when she is standing in the kitchen wearing only her underwear. Juno thinks he is totally gorgeous & sets out to impress, unfortunately Jay always seems to catch her at her worst.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Author!!!, July 20, 2003
This review is from: Snap Happy (Paperback)
Ok, well one of them anyway. (come on, asking a booklover who her favorite author is compares to asking a mother which is her favorite child...)

Snap Happy was the first Fiona Walker book I read, and I paid a fortune for it at amazon.co.uk! But it was well worth the price. Juno is hilarious. I love the fact that she is a stand up comedian. Most chick lit novels are based on women who work in advertising or publishing. She is a unique character and very loveable. I am so glad to see that Fiona Walker books are available in the us now! Now you can all bask in Ms. Walker's glory!

4.0 out of 5 stars One for the beach, June 19, 2000
This review is from: Snap Happy (Paperback)
No - she's not drop dead gorgeous, figure-to-die-for and in a high powered career. Neither is he. Thoroughly believable characters in a funny, light, bubbly read. The only real criticism I have is of her constant cracking of usually NOT funny jokes - sorry, TOO much !

I forced myself to continue reading as I hate to leave a book unread, and after taking a while to get into it in the hope that it would get better, I couldn't continue reading and gave up. There was no hook in the beginning either, and after 5 chapters, I still couldn't see where it was going or what the point of continuing to read was. I ususally like light and humerous books, but this wasn't one of them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring, July 24, 2007
This review is from: Snap Happy (Paperback)
Fiona Walker is one of my favourite authors and I desperately want to love anything she has written. However, this book is terrible! its boring and I read it to the end thinking it would get better, however it didn't. Others may love this book but for me, it was very disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!, April 19, 2000
By
This review is from: Snap Happy (Paperback)
I found Fiona Walker at Amazon.com/UK and have been looking EVERYWHERE for her stuff in the States. Which hasn't been an easy prospect. BUT, she is SO worth the effort and time. I love her books. "Snap Happy" is one of the best. Juno is every bit the "up and coming" gals of the new millenium. She's got everything that us "singletons" do...(she's got the spunk of Bridget Jones and the charm to boot.) It's a fun, fast and well done piece of charm. I think any single gal out there would be thrilled with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and recognizable. Highly recommended!, April 6, 2000
This review is from: Snap Happy (Paperback)
Snap Happy is the first book written by Walker I've read. I was looking for something entertaining and light-to-digest.. and found everything I was looking for. Juno is not the perfect, drop-dead gorgeous woman (that's her friend Lydia) that stars in a typical Jackie Collins book, but she's very real and has her weaknesses (just like you and me!) Jay is to drool over, and I have to say that Walker has quite twisted the plot nicely (the woman that does not let him love her). I must've given everyone around me the intention that I'd gone mad, but I just couldn't help laughing all through the book. The many misunderstandings are well done!
