5.0 out of 5 stars For the price, a good deal
For maximum archival life of CDs, it is a good idea to keep them both in a jewel case, and an outer container as well. After doing a fairly extensive web search, I discovered that the selection of boxes to hold CDs, while contained within a jewel case, is actually rather limited. And many of these cases are in the $30-$60 range, and actually hold fewer CDs than these...

I bought 3 of these on sale at $3.00 each and I can see why they were discounted; one was perfect, everything fit. The 2nd was tight, but the jewel cases fit in with a little persuasion, albeit a friction fit. The third was so narrow I had to put them in sideways, which wasted space. Also the boxes were short if you put the jewelcases in with the endlabels up so you could...

5.0 out of 5 stars For the price, a good deal, August 10, 2006

For maximum archival life of CDs, it is a good idea to keep them both in a jewel case, and an outer container as well. After doing a fairly extensive web search, I discovered that the selection of boxes to hold CDs, while contained within a jewel case, is actually rather limited. And many of these cases are in the $30-$60 range, and actually hold fewer CDs than these cases do.

On the downside, these cases are rather plain appearing and business-like. But I didn't want flaming pink, anyway. Also, their style does not lend them to being portable. For files that will be used daily, or something you want to carry around with you, it may be a good idea to get something more durable with a carrying handle, made of metal or heavy plastic.

These boxes are made out of coated cardboard, a fact that is clearly stated in the description. But they are quite sturdy, and if used only occasionally, should last for many years. But these cases could be damaged, if they were accidentally soaked with water, or kept in an extremely damp environment.

For archival storage with occasional access, this is the best deal I could find, especially considering the almost-nominal price. If you have a lot of CDs, that will fill several-to-many containers, and will only access them occasionally; these boxes are a good choice. I will probably buy some more, as I continue to generate CDs that will need to be stored.

I am pleased with the purchase. They hold 30 CD's in the full jewel case. I bought 10 boxes and I got all my CD's organized. They assemble in about 30 seconds. They got them to me in 2 days. Very easy and convenient.

Also the boxes were short if you put the jewelcases in with the endlabels up so you could read them - you could put the cover on but it was not level and you could not stack them. It's the luck of the draw I guess, you might get a good one, then again....

I was delighted by these boxes. They are not glamorous, but they are efficient. I would have settled for a simple cardboard box that was exactly the size of a CD (and long enough to hold a bunch), and this, while essentially a cardboard box, is very thoughtfully designed.

My reason for buying a bunch was to store CDs that I've now put on my computer, so I only need them for backup. I wanted the most compact manner possible to store them, and this is it. It also seems to be by far the cheapest.

Until you need one, it is folded flat. It easily assembles, and is sturdy and attractive (black, with metal corners and a lable holder). I threw out all of my jewel cases, and bought a lot of paper sleeves for the CDs, and can fit a large number of CDs and booklets (maybe 80? I didn't count) in each box. I guess you could also keep the jewel cases, but I am delighted to have the shelf space back instead.

I now also use one of them for computer backups and software disks. There's room in a single box for all of my backups, all of my software, all of the manuals, and a ham sandwich (although probably not the best place for the sandwich).

I like the idea of these cases, but they are a bit tight. CD's in plastic cases just fit. If you have a cd box set that is a bit wider don't bother. I wish they were 1/4" wider and 3/4" taller.

A very affordable and practical storage unit. I was able to store 250 CD's-DVD's in their paper sleeves. The unit was easy to assemble and ready to go in just a couple of minutes. I initially bought two, and have just ordered four more.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beware: doesn't fit CDs or DVDs in sleeves, March 28, 2008

While the specifications state the inside width as 5-1/8" the actual dimension is 5", too narrow for CD/DVD envelopes. I bought the boxes for that purpose and cannot use them. Jewel cases fit well, though a bit snug.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great box for CD storage, February 10, 2008

This review is from: Snap-N-Store CD Storage Box, 13.25 x 5.125 x 5.125 Inches, Black (SNS01521) (Electronics)
I needed storage boxes for a couple hundred CDs in paper sleeves. My requirements were: inexpensive and sturdy with a cover, and these fit the bill. My experiences with these from Endless Variety were:

1. My boxes were delivered with unbelievable speed - shipped the same day I placed the order, and they arrived the next day.
2. Assembly is simple and quick - just open up the box and snap the 4 snaps on each end into those on the sides.
3. The box is very sturdy. The 5x5 inch sleeves fit perfectly with just enough room to flip through them. It fits 165 CDs in sleeves or even more.
4. As others reported, the top is about 3/8 inch too wide and therefore fits loosely. It would be nice to have it fit snugly, but that isn't necessary. I just want something to keep out the dust. Also, since the top, too, is sturdy, you can stack these boxes.
5. One reviewer reported a strong chemical smell. Mine are odorless.

For those using jewel cases, both the trim and full jewel cases fit into the box with no problem. However, both stick up about 5/8 inch above the sides as depicted in the picture on this page. Therefore, the box's cover will lay on the cases rather than on the box's sides.

I'm very happy with mine - a great product for the price. I will definitely order more if I need them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice but dumb design, August 25, 2009

Really like this clever little snap-button box. The problem is that the jewel cases stick up almost an inch and the cover actually rests on your jewel cases. Can you imagine storing your stuff for moving and using a box like that? They should get their stuff together and make the box an inch higher so the top can rest on the sides of the box. Stupid.

1.0 out of 5 stars Smell Of Strong Chemicals, October 29, 2007

The storage boxes assembled easily and they looked like they would work well, but the eight I bought had a strong, almost sour, chemical smell. I kept them in my storage space for two months, figuring that they would loose the offensive odor. That wasn't the case and I put them in the trash yesterday.
