Minilessons Galore!,
By F. Chamberlain (CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Snapshots: Literacy Minilessons Up Close (Paperback)
This was an excellent book with 174 minilessons for teachers to use for reading. There are nine chapters in the book; however, only four chapters are usable for upper grade teachers. Middle school and high school teachers would probably not find these minilessons useful. The four chapters that could be beneficial for upper grade teachers include minilessons for literature discussions, independent reading, informational texts, and writing ideas. I teach fifth grade, and I was able to get some ideas and use some of the reproducibles from this book. If you are looking for a myriad of minilessons for a large range of grades (K-5), then this is the book for you!

Awesome literacy find!?!?!,
By Neeley Mac Arthur (Cape Cod, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Snapshots: Literacy Minilessons Up Close (Paperback)
This book is filled with practicle strategies that help to support a balanced literacy model. It read very quickly. My favorite chapter was titled: Reading Strategies Alive!!. It has great reproducibles that helps to support students' flexible use of all good reading strategies. Other chapters inlcude: phonemic awareness, comprehension, independent reading, nonfiction text, writing and guided reading. The entire book is filled with excellent reproducibles that do not need to be changed at all for use in you classroom. I have used many of these reproducibles with my reading students.

I was impressed with the customer reviews, so I ordered Snapshots. It is filled with lots of good minilessons, but I teach 7th and 8th grade reading improvement classes, and there wasn't much in it that I could use with my students.

This is a great book for educators to use as a guide to conduct minilessons. It has many minilessons that vary from reading to writing. It also discusses how to conduct minilessons and why to use them. It is also an easy read and enables teachers to get a better idea of what a minilesson is.

This book has great photos which are a plus for new teachers. If you teach in an urban system some of the recommendations are not the greatest. Helpful if you have a large classroom and the time and resources to set up.
