4.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff But Do We Need This CD?, February 10, 2005

For the second year in a row, we get a compilation CD from Chris Rice.

This one starts off with six tracks from various live performances. I must admit I really enjoyed the slightly different take on some classic Chris Rice songs. "Deep Enough to Dream" is especially enjoyable in this setting.

Up next are three songs from non-Chris Rice records. "Billy Joe McGuffrey" originated on the soundtrack for Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie. "Calling out Your Name" was originally on the tribute to Rich Mullins. Finally, "Nothin'" comes from Exodus. I am thrilled to have these songs on a Chris Rice CD.

Lastly, we get some fan favorites directly from their original recording, like any best of. What's interesting to me is the inclusion of two songs from his Living Room Sessions projects, two CD's that got passed over in his best of last year.

Don't get me wrong, I love Chris's music. My disappointment is that there is really little new here for fans. While I enjoy best of's, we just had one last year. It's been two years since we had anything new from Chris, and I'm more then ready for it. This CD would have been great in another few years with another project or two under his belt. I would even feel differently if it were cheaper. But released like this, it feels more like a marketing ploy then anything else.

If you aren't familiar with Chris's music, this would be a great place to start. I just love it. But die hard fans will want to consider if they really want to add this to their collection.

I found this CD when looking for Chris' pop song "When did you fall in love with me." (not on this CD). I'd never heard of him before, but I recognized him somehow. Although I rarely buy Christian CDs, (Amy Grant the exception), I decided to try this. I put it in my car's CD player and never took it out for 2 weeks. It lifted my spirits beyond anything I can explain. Other reviewers have said Chris' music is a mixture of campfire sing-a-longs and being with friends. It is all that. Master songwriter & storyteller. I especially like that he doesn't preach, that he leaves lots of room for being less than perfect and for being confused & doubtful at times. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Collection, July 10, 2005

This is a very enjoyable CD. I have heard some of Rice's songs previously, but this is the first album of his that I have heard in its entirety.

His music is very mellow, but it has good lyrics and a pleasant sound. The main reason that I bought this CD was that I thought my daughter would enjoy 'Cartoons'. I found that it was not the only 'fun' song on this album. 'Billy Joe McGuffrey' is another great song for kids. Actually, I have enjoyed both of those as well as several of the others also. I particulary like 'Deep Enough to Dream'.

If you have a pre-teen or teenager, I would really recommend this for a couple of fun songs. It is also enjoyable for adults.
