Product Description

The Newest! “Tunes Tighter So You Sound Better.” The SN-8 Snark Super Tight Chromatic Instrument Tuner provides a solid stay-put clip-on direct connection to your instrument. Has more precise tuning, and advanced features! Power saving feature: tuner display will dim after 5 seconds of no sound detected. This conserve battery power. Display returns to normal brightness when a note is detected. If no notes are detected for 2 minutes, tuner will shut off.

Improved Full Color visual display with larger improved frequency lines making it an easy read. It can be used in practice or live giging situations. Other features: tap tempo metronome, pitch calibration, and a transpose feature for tuning guitars with capo. Internal vibration sensor detects notes by clipping on directly to instrument.

The Snark only weighs 1.5 ounces with a very expertly made clamp with rubber gripping jaws. The lower jaw hinges allowing it to fit any contour. Snark tuners will clip on and stay to even Ovation with the angled head stock. Also has ball socket on each end of the curved mounting post that connects the clamp to the face. Allows 360 degress maneuvering making the Snark perfectly adjustable for most any situation.
Comes complete with a CR2032 Lithium 3 volt battery. This is the same kind that many computers use for the clock battery. Battery is held in a simple pull out draw behind tuner face.
It’s best to tune-up on stage just before you play because the temperature on stage will be a little different than other places in the building. A clip on tuner is fast and you can put the Snark in your pocket as soon as you’re done or leave it on instrument. People will even ask you where they can get one because they are so impressive being so small, convenient, and quick to use. Tuning is easy. To go from one note to the next is very fast, almost instant so it takes less time to tune up. Snark has the transpose feature for perfect tuning with capo in place.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good tuner, but not super tight February 3, 2012

Bought this Snark SN8 tuner to compliment my other tuners I have; an onboard tuner on my acoustic guitar and Intelli IMT500 clip on.

The product is well made and feels solid, the two swivel ball joints allow for any position you'd like.
The display looks great and clip on is sturdy and strong.

Performance wise the tuner displays the sound pitch amazingly quick and with a consistent reading, never wandering around like the IMT500 sometimes can, so on both speed and precision it gets 5 stars.

But on the accuracy side it's a bit lacking.
Even with the tuner indicating a solid green bar, I can have both my onboard tuner and the IMT500 show the pitch being either slightly sharp or flat. Not that there's an offset of sort, but simply that the green bar tolerance is too wide kinda like +/- 5 cents or so. My other tuners are like +/- 3 cents.

So there you have it, for quick tuning and if you don't care about the perfect pitch, the Snark SN8 is all aces. But if you're looking for a high accuracy tuner, the SN8 is not it despite being labeled as "super tight".

For the most accurate tuning use a strobe tuner or other tuner softwware app on iphone/android/mac/pc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive Gem December 20, 2011

I don't play professionally so there is no need to buy expensive pedal tuners such as Hardwire HT-6, Polytune or Korg Pitchblack. I researched for other alternatives and decided on a "clip on" tuner. I narrowed it down to 3 - Korg AW2, Snark SN-1 & Intelli IMT-900. All 3 have a lot of positive reviews and all of them are under $20. I visited each manufacturers' website for more information and found out about the Snark SN-8. Snark claims that it's their best tuner yet. If their SN-1 can go toe to toe with the others, then I would assume that their best will do even better. I took the plunge and ordered one. I have only 2 requirements for a tuner:
1. It should be accurate.
2. It should be fast.
The Snark SN-8 delivered on both counts and more! It came with other extras like "tap tempo metronome", "super tight tuning", "pitch calibration", "transpose features" etc. I may not have any use for all of them right now but it's nice to have them at your fingertips. You can use it for other instruments as well but I only use it for my guitars. The SN-8 is small & unobtrusive. The display is bright and easily readable and can turn any which way you like. After tuning, I turn it off and put it back in the guitar case. I don't like it hanging in my guitar! Of course, it doesn't stay long because it tunes fast! For under $20, these little tuner is all you need.....fast and accurate. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get the red one. May 9, 2012

Got the black one as it was advertised as quicker than other the other Snarks. It's quicker because it's less accurate. Get the red one. It's the same price, works the same way, and has a more accurate display.
