Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Renegade cop Harry Schlacter is always involved in high-profile cases and arrests because he aims to bring justice to the streets. Harry has fallen in love with school teacher Lela Eberhart, who is kidnapped by a bad dude named Whistler in retaliation for the unsolved death of Badeye, one of Whistler's men. Lela's father is Frank Eberhart, a by-the-book member of the LAPD's Internal Affairs Department, and Harry and Frank must work out their professional and personal hang-ups before they can rescue Lela. First-time novelist Champion has written a satisfying tale about contemporary police officers who do not fit the stereotype and who fulfill their roles as protectors of the citizenry. Fast paced and well written, this exciting tale should find a spot in most fiction collections.

From Scientific American

An explosive and controversial story, too close to truth for comfort.

What would you do to save your life?

Lela is snatched in retribution for the mysterious murder of a homicidal maniac. A young, pure Watts schoolteacher, Lela is unprepared by training or temperament to cope with her cunning and complex captors. She valiantly tries to come out alive and untouched - with her sanity and her dignity intact.

What would you do to save your daughter's life?

A benign Los Angeles cop, Frank has lived his life in the slow laneÑsafe, sane and by the book. But rules and regulations are not freeing his beloved daughter, and his faith is quaking.

What would you do to save your girlfriend's life?

Sometimes called Happy-trigger Harry, Lela's old-fashioned cop boyfriend gets results. His maverick philosophy and seat-of-the-pants methods put Frank and the brass on edge and they are hampering him every step of the way as he plunges to save Lela from what he believes is a fate worse than death!

From Southern California's lowlands to its highest mountain, "The Snatch" races at breakneck speed with unexpected twists and mounting tension, sure to keep you in suspense until the crashing climax.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well-done kidnapping revenge novel, April 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Snatch (Hardcover)
involving two very different kinds of cops, south central L.A. gang members and a virginal schoolteacher. Lots of action, characterization and excitement. I recommend it.
