Before we had Brandy, Monica & Aaliyah we had the inimitable, Stacy Lattisaw!! I grew up listening to this girl and could not believe the voice coming out of a 13/14 year old girl. I happily bought her greatest hits cd but it doesn't include one of my favorite ballads - I COULD LOVE YOU SO DIVINE.Her rendition of this song still sends chills up my spine & makes me wish I could sing as well as she can. This ballad as well as all of the other great ballads of hers are not too old or too mature for her - they all possess a sweet innocense that is indeed lost on the teen singers of today's music biz. This album, produced by the great Narada Michael Walden who worked on all of Stacy's initial releases is one of the best r&b albums of the 80's. Stacy Lattisaw's voice is indeed missed in the music world but at least we are able to relive the magic of her voice through the re-release of her albums. If you can get your hands on this disc, ENJOY!!

old R & B at its best. I havent seen this album as in a record in years and its finally back. I remember i was looking for it on Cd way back in 1994 but the Cd didnt exist, yet. i even called up Atlantic recording at the time. When this album came out it was 1982 and this girl was still singing. my father had the album but i wanted it on a Cd. went everywhere looking aroundStacy Lattisaw has a great voice. Sneakin out is a great song, high pitched voice. i know she had talent . Hey there Lonely Boy, done well. Attack of the name Game is fun, Synthesizers exist in this tune. little rappish in there, nothing crazy of course a new idea maybe too. I know Blondie had Rapture. Memories the song was good, IT was a B side on a 45rm to Love on A Way Street. Dont throw it all Away a great hit, Sang well by Stacy , Guys like you give love a bad name, done well as i remembered it. tonight im gonna make you mine i give 4 stars. the album only has 9 songs on it but its well worth it , pick it up if you love Oldies, or old R & B from this time period, welcome back Stacy Lattisaw! although she doesnt sing in music business anymore i beleive.

"Sneakin' Out" was recorded under Cotillion Records, where she recorded her first album "Young & In Love," and it peaked at #55 U.S. Pop and #11 U.S. R&B. The album opens with a strong dance tune penned with the same name as the album. The footsteps one hears in the beginning of the song lends the illusion of someone sneaking out of a room; very clever. "Guys Like You Give Love A Bad Name" was a dance song with a message, and such a strong one at that for such a young 16 year old. Track #3 "Memories" is a very pretty song and one of my favorites. This is classic Stacy at her finest and is what made her so sensational. Followed by "Tonight I'm Gonna Make You Mine," is a catchy dance tune reminding me of the type of music I used to dance to back in the early 80's. "Hey There Lonely Boy" peaked at #71 on the U.S. R&B, and not bad for a cover which had previously been done by more mature artists. In any event, this tune received a lot of radio play and forever will be associated with Stacy Lattisaw."Don't Throw It All Awway," was another popular favorite and as Stacy sings you can hear the pleading and strength in her voice. Her age belied her emotions, and this song peaked at #9 on the U.S. R&B. One might say that "Attack of the Name Game" was one of the earliest attempts on rap and making it mainstream it peaked at #70 on U.S. Pop and #14 on the U.S. R&B. Although not one of my favorites at the time, it has slowly grown on me over the years and I never tire of hearing it. If you listen carefully you can hear her brother on this song too. I always liked "I'm Down For You" because at the time it came out it, it sounded so cool, but now I can say with maturity that it has a great melody, catchy rhythm and sweet words. The final song "I Could Love You So Divine" should have charted in my opinion because it was sung with such passion and melancholy, making it a true love song. This is a great album and really shows why Stacy Lattisaw was such a success and such a phenomenon. She had youth, she had passion, and most of all, she had talent. If you don't already have this great album, add it to your collection, you won't be sorry.

"Sneakin Out" is a cute, upbeat album and one of my favorite Stacy albums. Here is my review on this wonderful album:1.) Sneakin' Out: Good, funky song. I like the part where the little boy says, "Ooh, Stacy, I'mma tell Mama." 2.) Guys Like You (Give Love a Bad Name): Cute song with a nice catchy melody. One of my favorite songs off the album. 3.) Memories: Sweet, precious ballad and Stacy sounds absolutely beautiful on this song. 4.) Tonight I'm Gonna Make You Mine: Cool, upbeat song to dance to. 5.) Hey There Lonely Boy: Stacy's remake of this classic song is wonderful. 6.) Don't Throw it All Away: Another good ballad off this album with Stacy's wonderful voice. 7.) Attack of the Name Game: Cute, upbeat song that was later sampled by Mariah Carey on her "Heartbreaker" song. I thought the little alien voice on the song was kinda cute. 8. I'm Down For You: Another upbeat funky song with that's fun to dance to. 9. I Could Love You So Divine: My favorite song off this album. It's so sweet and soulful. Stacy sounds wonderful!! If you're a Stacy fanatic, this album's for you!!

A DC Native.....,
By Pretty One (Brandywine, MD) - See all my reviews

Stacy Lattisaw was such a pretty young DC native bordering on superstardom. Being a DC native myself, it was a thrill knowing that we had fresh and good talent brewing like that in the area and that is to include Johnny Gill who too grew up in DC.This would be Stacy's third release coming off of the success of her sophmore release "Let me be your Angel" which was produced by the genius of super producer Narada Michael Walden. Her first release did not fare as well although produced by the late Van "Do the Hustle" McCoy. It spawned the song "When you're young and in love" orignally done by the Mowtown group the Marvelettes. This album has particular sentimental value because I was coming into my own, having just graduated from high school and going off to college. It gave me great comfort to hear her sing upbeat songs although my particular favorite was a slow ballad called "I can love you so divine". It had a quality that matched her youth and innocence. And as it were, she began to sound alot like Phyllis Hyman which Narada also produced at around the same time. All of Stacy's subsequent albums thereafter began to have the same range as Phyllis's, although Stacy could certainly hold her own. With that said....I'm glad to see that she had a great run of success with her music and although she is now married with children.....she left the industry on top. I've heard rumors of a forth coming gospel album, whatever the case, I wish her continued success.

Don't Throw This CD Away,

Wow ! Stacy Lattisaw. Man , did I have a crush on her. Then again , if you were a black male between ages 9 and 16 , in 1982 , you probably did as well. Okay enough of that. This is a phenominal throwback album. Or I should say cd , for the young folk. You see , I remember longing for this album , so I cleaned up the house and did every chore just for the chance to go to the local record store ( The Record Bar ) and buy this LP. Once I got it home , I wore out the grooves. And even as I write this review , it takes me back to when songs were written for the fans and not for airplay. With that personal footnote : 1982's " Sneakin Out " is a wonderful collection of versatile songs performed by then-teenage artist and R/B sensation, Stacy Lattisaw. Although this was her fourth album , it has demonstrative tunes that capture the essence of her vocal abilities and exhibited her appeal to thousands of fans. Combined with power house music producer Narada Micheal , Stacy Lattisaw continued to conquer top R/B status as well as crossover into the pop mainstream. Despite the complexities , " Sneakin Out " remains an innocent album that exposes the child like qualities of this talented artist with songs like " Attack of the Name Game " ( reached # 14 on R/B charts 1982 ) as well as provides glimpses of a maturing artist with cuts like " Don't Throw It All Away " ( reached # 9 on R/B charts 1982 ) and " Memories ". In this time of pop culture that insists that artists record and sing mindless songs of sex overlapped with loud beats , this is a wonderful and well apprecited album. Or I should say CD for the young folk.

Chilling... This is the feel I have every time I listen to Stacy's voice. I'm very glad for the chance of access to her works. She's one of the best proofs of how 80's are so remarcable. No overproduction; you feel the spirit, both in her voice and the musicians. Every time she sings she puts that picture of eternal youth on you. She's lovely, seductive, and all her qualities are pretty well transcribed on the songs. If you don't know Stacy, take a time to approach her. She will become the apple of your eyes for the whole life.Guess you can now imagine what I think about "Sneakin' Out", ain't it? Perfect! You dance with it, you have fun with it, you can feel the positive vibrations of the life with it, you can give the first kiss with it (without a problem) and of course, you can make love with it. Perfect for any situation. Even on some most minimal pieces of certain songs, her voice makes everything possible. But her sweetness is that mark you see and you'll never forget. And you can find it in every song she sings. I was 11 when she decided to rretire from the music scene, but I feel like those people who had the privilege of seeing her shining on the charts. Hope she could make a surprise for us soonner and then we'll be able to see her making this music scene shake again. She's hot! Ask Mr. Gill and you'll have the idea!
