4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, but Telepathy is better still, April 20, 2004
By
This review is from: Snide Remarks (Audio CD)
Bill Stewart, who is one of the finest drummers around, plays with Joe Lovano, John Scofield, Pat Metheny. He was sadly abandoned by Blue Note after he put out this great debut CD and the truly great follow up "Telepathy." Both are out of print, but search high and low to find them, especially Telepathy. Stewart frequently plays on pianist Bill Carrothers' projects. They play to packed houses in Europe and garner rave reviews. Search around and you'll find some of their excellent work together: "A Band in All Hope" "Ghost Ships" and "Armistice Day"

Too bad this recording is out of stock! Mr. Stewart has written exquisite tunes and on Snide Remarks they are played by incredible musicians. Mr. Stewart has left an indelible mark on contemporary music and this disc shows why. If you find a copy...run do not walk to purchase it!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to Bill Stewart's genius, May 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Snide Remarks (Audio CD)
Bill Stewart's wonderful drumming had already been featured on many fine recordings before "Snide Remarks" (such as John Scofield & Pat Metheny's "I Can See Your House From Here" and Larry Goldings's "Light Blue") but this album showcases his beautiful, avant-garde-flavored composing as well. If you are a jazz listener who enjoys the drumming of Tony Williams, Roy Haynes, or Philly Joe Jones, then you must experience Bill Stewart's contribution to the art. His playing is intelligent, soulful and astonishingly creative.
