I really dig sniper games and that is the main reason I bought this. That and the bullet cam...

The game is alright. Definitely tough if you play on the right difficulty and each level takes a good amount of time (up to 2 hours) to complete. The graphics are O.K but poorly put together. More often than not, those mines that I sneakly place to cover my back end up floating in mid air. Same thing with health packs laying around. Just...floating there. The bullet cam has glitched a couple of times (froze for a short while) as well. This could be from overheating as I played for a good 3 hours when I first got it.

Other than that, the game does not really disappoint. If you are looking for stellar graphics, story line, and complex maps; this game will not please you. However, if you just like to snipe, take your time, and watch a bullet crush someones eyeball; Go for it.

I'll start off by saying I was a HUGE fan of the previous Sniper Elite game. I loved it and could not wait for the sequel. After playing this game and not being able to finish it, I can say that I am nothing but disappointed. I'll start with the good:

-Graphics are fantastic. We're not talking high-end PC graphics but good for a Sniper Elite game;
-Sound effects are top notch;
-Big, wide open levels with many different routes to take;

Now for the bad..

-The game is PLAGUED with bugs and glitches. On several occasions I could not finish a level because the game would just freeze, causing me to have to restart my PS4 only for it to freeze again moments after re-starting the game;

-Animations are awful. Moving from cover to running, turning corners, close quarter kills, the animations are blocky and VERY low quality;

-The X-ray kill cam does not offer what the game advertised. Only certain points of the body can be seen breaking because of the bullet and the anatomy of a person is not very detailed at all. Sometimes the sound of a bullet striking an enemy will play before the bullet actually does and the camera sometimes goes above the enemy causing you not to see the kill at all;

-You have to play several levels into the game before ANY weapon customization options become available;

-Enemies have an auto lock-on. If a tank or foot soldier sees you and begins to shoot, they can not miss;

-The AI in the game is awful. Enemies make NO attempt to find cover and will blindly run out in the open to be killed;

-The AI will sometimes reset during a firefight.

Sniper Elite 3 Review

"One Shot is all it takes to change history"... That's the motto 505 Games, and Rebellion are using to sell their latest title 'Sniper Elite 3'. But does the latest in the Sniper Elite franchise change gaming history? and should YOU give it a shot?

Sniper Elite 3 once again puts you in the role of veteran sniper, Lieutenant Karl Fairburn. Set as a prequel for the events of V2, you play as Karl during the conflict in North Africa during WW2. The story starts out with Karl loading his rifle in Tobruk, when suddenly the Axis forces invade the city and begin bombarding the walls with artillery. Shortly after escaping the destruction, (and taking off a few heads with your M1 Grand), You find yourself in the middle of a Nazi plot to create a super tank... or something. To be honest, I stopped caring about the story, because it became obvious the developers didn't care about it either. For example, this is the only way the narrative progresses:

It's a shame the devs didn't take the time to create a truly compelling story, but that seems to be the trend with shooters these days. Luckily with Sniper Elite 3, it doesn't impact the overall experience. The game still manages to keep you coming back mission after mission because... Well, this.

No other shooter in recent memory offers such satisfying kills. Sure, Fallout 3 has a similar feature with the V.A.T.S. system, but in this game, with each perfect shot you line up, you're rewarded with a gruesome and detailed look at what the bullet you fired does to your target's organs in full X-Ray view.

It's been called a gimmick by some reviewers, but it's honestly the one thing that sets this title apart. It adds some flare to an otherwise dull campaign.

As someone who loved both Sniper Elite and Sniper Elite V2, I was excited for the successor to those games, but I was also hoping that they improved on some things. I'm happy to report that they did. V2, while a fun game, was much more linear than its predecessor, so I was hoping III was a move back to large environments, and it most certainly is.

In terms of gameplay, expect something similar to V2. The core gameplay is largely unchanged, but just polished up to near perfection now. Where the controls felt slightly unrefined at times before, it's now a much smoother playing game, and the character moves much more gracefully around the environments. Even something like hopping over cover is now done with a silky smooth animation. Just like in V2, the amazing bullet cam is back and better than ever. Comparable to the more recent Mortal Kombat title, you can see each bone shatter and break as your bullet passes through a body in slow-motion. That said, if you don't like this, and I don't know who wouldn't, but if you don't, you can change how frequently you want to see it in the menu. If you're a fan of stealth and sniping in games, Sniper Elite III won't disappoint.

As for story, it's there. Nothing amazing, but enjoyable enough to keep you going. But it's not a downer on the game since it gets the job done, and this game's really all about the enjoyable gameplay.

Now what really surprised me was the presentation. This game runs at native 1080p, offering very crisp image quality. In addition, the game generally runs at 60fps. I own the PS4 version, but I assume that the same holds true for the Xbox One version.
